New Greenpoint bar: Lake Street’s No BS Quenches @lakestbrooklyn from Greenpointers Magazine

Lake Street Bar (706 Manhattan Ave) sits unassumingly at Norman and Manhattan Avenues in Greenpoint. Its window-front wouldn’t stand out to anyone visiting Brooklyn, though it’s something locals would notice with its bare-fisted lack of pretension. It’s a bar, no frills. And frankly, exactly what our sometimes congested neighborhood needs.

Cancel your flights! Munich isn’t that great anyway. Ok, I haven’t been there, but I have been to Brouwerij Lane and it’s awesome. Our friends there are throwing an Oktoberfest that’s sure to be just as Spaß (“fun” in German) as the original.

Atrium’s house-made, apple wood-smoked potato bread, a crusty, chewy loaf that captures the essence of campfires and chimney smoke. When we asked if there was bacon in the bread, our waiter explained that smoked yeast gives the bread its toasty flavor and politely added that it reminds him of a peaty, smoky Scotch.

Williamsburg’s lonesomest bar: Grand Ferry @grandferrynyc from The L Magazine

The only other time I’ve seen a place quite this desolate was a Valentine’s Day in Trash Bar. And a night at Grand Ferry is much nicer than that.
 Opened a little more than a month ago by the team behind The Richardson, the cocktails are exquisite and, per the bar’s name, veer fruity and nautical, like the light, sharp gin-and-Aperol-based Hey Sailor!.

Williamsburg favorite Vanessa’s Dumplings closed for “Operating Illegally” from Free Williamsburg Magazine

No more four-for-a-dollar dumplings and $2.50 Peking duck sandwiches in Williamsburg. Vanessa’s Dumpling House on Bedford Ave was recently shut down by the city for operating illegally. There are going to be a lot of sad, drunk, hungry people in the area around 11:30 p.m. tonight.

A long wooden bar extends to nearly the full length of the interior, with ample counter space for stool-seating, along with a few smaller booths along the opposite wall. Three Diamond Door is located at 211 Knickerbocker Ave between Troutman and Jefferson Streets in Bushwick, Brooklyn (718-576-6136). Look for the three diamonds on the door.
