Mexico declares war and joins the Allies. Mexican members of the Escuadrón 201, part of the Fuerza Aérea Expedicionaria Mexicana, or FAEM (Mexican Expeditionary Air Force) pose with a bomb that reads, in part, “Tequila. 1000 lbs.” Mexico joined the war against the Axis powers after German U-boats sunk two Mexican oil-tankers in May 1942. On 29 December 1944, Mexico’s Senate authorized Mexican troops to be sent into combat. The FAEM was then given a base at camp Porac, Pampanga in the Clark Field complex on the island of Luzon where the squadron led 59 combat missions over Japanese held Luzon and Formosa (Taiwan).
