Iâm surprised because I donât think Iâve ever posted any photo of my Hinata cosplay with my face in it? :O
I usually donât spend a lot of effort or do anything special for my cosplay makeup (because Iâm still not good at it haha..) I just lined my eyes, skip the mascara and fake eyelashes, and use a nude coloured lipstick. For the eyebrows I trimmed and filled my eyebrows in with a white eyeliner (I used to go with the conceal your eyebrows with a concealer method but it took more time and effort) and coloured it with an orange lip liner (you could also use an orange eyeshadow if you can find the shade close to your wig).

Itâs been almost a month and I still canât believe I won âBest Overallâ in the Cosplay Competition. I entered hoping to win, but I never imagined Iâd win this titleâŚ
I was excited for this cosplay because I love all my sword boys and there were techniques I had to learn in a short amount of time. My goal was to make as much from scratch as possible - which was stressful but satisfying at the same time. My favourite part was probably the two sash (?) hanging from the obi which involved hand sewing and beading. It felt like a personal touch to the cosplay.Â
Another icing on the cake: cosplay senpai(s) noticed me! VICTORY â

At this point Iâm focusing all my energy on Jiroutachi so I canât be sure I can cosplay Yuuriâs Duetto outfit. As a plan B for Day 1 I can cosplay him in his training outfit instead so either way I can still be my precious katsudon đ
These photos show some of the things that are more than halfway done. Iâve been working on this cosplay for weeks. There has been a lot of fails and mistakes along the way but Iâm learning new techniques and thatâs one of the best things about cosplay for me :)
According to my cosplanner app* Iâm 69% done (this is likely to be overestimated though).
*If you cosplay (even if you donât make your own cosplays), I highly recommend this app!

Iâm sorry I lost my template but I basically cropped a screenshot from the anime (I think it was season 1 and it was Daichiâs back..the OP maybe?), printed it out then traced it on my freezer paper.Â

Compared to 2015, when I cosplayed only from Haikyuu!!, 2016 was a diverse year of cosplays for me. I didnât cosplay for Halloween but hopefully next year I can :)
When I got my Yuuri Katsuki glasses I was disappointed that it was so dark, and had parts in silver instead of blue. After some research, I attempted to repaint the frame with nail polish and it worked \o/

Steps:
First I removed the lenses from the frame. In my case I only needed to use my trusty tiny screwdriver.Â
I then painted the frame with 2-3 layers of polish.Â
When it dried I re-assembled the whole thing and voila! I didnât have to buy new pair of glasses and the whole thing was cheap (unless you buy a really expensive nail polish) and quick.Â
Just make sure to do it in a well ventilated space because the smell of nail polish. Â Â

Really sorry about another question.. (same aussie newbie wannabe cosplayer) but I was wondering, how did you make your detachable numbers for the haikyuu jerseys? I can understand how to make the numbers, but I was wondering what your method was for attaching them? (Bc safety pins just doesn't seem comfortable/secure and I can't think how Velcro would work for all numbers (like the position of numbers in relation to Velcro points) Sorry for the moorage of questions, u just are rlly good:3

For the numbers I ironed them on a white polyester fabric then cut them out (in hindsight I shouldâve used an interfacing fabric or something stiffer). Now, I stuck them onto my shirts with double sided sticky tape because 1) I have unlimited supply of these from my mum (lol) and 2) I was lazy. I regret using double sided sticky tape because I accidentally put it in the wash and it got stuck on my shirt.
I havenât actually cosplayed haikyuu!! uniforms again but I think I shouldâve hand sew the edges of the numbers with wide stitches and remove them when needed.
Do you have a shorts pattern for ur haikyuu uniforms or do u just buy them and modify them? I'm trying to be kenma, and I made a shirt pattern but I can't for the life of me find an online free shorts pattern, nor do I own any loose shorts (to make a pattern) nor can I find any red shorts in shops in aus ;-; cries Do u have any solutions/ideas????????????v sorry if annoying

I got free shorts sewing pattern from a blog/website (here). Iâm petite so I sometimes use childrenâs patterns. My favourite website (here) for free sewing patterns has shorts pattern with adult sizes but itâs a zip and button one - I guess you can modify it for an elastic waistband instead.Â
I have seen tutorials on how to make shorts pattern from your own clothes like you mentioned - you could buy a cheap shorts from Kmart/Big W or a secondhand shop? :) I actually think you can use other shorts or pants as a guide, not necessarily a loose one.
Another option is to buy sewing patterns from Spotlight. They are on sale quite a lot.Â

I returned to complete this cosplay, after years of storage, in time for a local Christmas parade.
The T-shirt took a while to find. The wand and earrings were simply painted from bought items. The crown was from a paper cup and foam. The wings were from foam, felt and wire and sewn onto the T-shirt. The wig..
..THE WIG WAS A NIGHTMARE. I left it to last because I was so scared. I tried different methods inspired by other people and eventually I decided to make a weft with wire, which was then sewn onto the front of the wig. I used loads of  hairspray and glue to hold it together.Â
In the end, the wig was stable throughout the day and I was proud of it :) Iâm waiting for my friends to be Cosmo and Timmy for a possible future shoot ^^

Kashuu Kiyomitsu (Touken Ranbu) arm guards tutorial (+ patterns)
I didnât take many photos when I made these because I kind of worked things out as I went and didnât intend to make a tutorial sorry ^^; Iâll try my best to walk you through how I made them.
Materials:
Black and red pleather/vinyl/fake leather
Craft foam
Primer
Red acrylic paint (close to the colour of the red pleather fabric)
Velcro strips with sticky back
Red elastic
Thin wire
Glue
Masking tape
Steps:
- I got the template for the arm guards from the official artbook.I scaled it to fit my arm then printed it out. Here they are cropped:
- I didnât have a printer at the time so I traced over my laptop screen. Hereâs my pattern you can resize to use (both are scanned from A4 pages):
- I drew the arm guard on a tracing paper so itâs easier to transfer the designs. I thought of the arm guards in 4 parts:
The part that covers the back of the hand
The rectangle piece thatâs mostly hidden
The part that covers the forearm
The straps (including the ones connecting parts 1-3)
- I cut all the black parts from black pleather. If you canât find black pleather, you may try colouring pleather of another colour. I also cut the red parts from red pleather - except these parts (in green):
- The green parts were cut from craft foam. IÂ âembossedâ the lines on the foam pieces with a pen - you can use anything as long as itâs not sharp since it would cut through.
- I painted the foam parts with 2 coats of primer then 2 coats of red acrylic paint.
- I carefully glued the red pleather pieces onto the black leather parts with double-sided sticky tape (you can use any glue).
- Next I glued on the foam pieces.
- For the straps I simply put the velcro with sticky backing on. For more strength you could choose sew-on velcro.
- Now for the straps I basically glued them on the part covering the forearm and the little rectangle piece, as well as the little straps connecting them:
(sorry it looks so messy because I cbb with the back...)
- Now for the part covering the back of the hand, I tied pieces of red elastic on my thumb and middle finger and made secure knots. Then I sewed them near the edges and taped over the free ends to stop them moving (this is rather optional imo).
- I sewed the rectangle piece onto the part cover the back of the hand at two corners to allow for easy movements:
- Lastly, this is optional too imo, I taped a short piece of wire on the part covering the back of the hand so it curves in the way I wanted it to. My finger is pointing to the concealed wire here:
- Lastly I painted the back of the arm guards red (I got a bit rushed and didnât do it properly..)

So I'm trying out cosplaying... what type of fabric did u use for your haikyuu uniforms? Also, what do u recommend as a cheap alternate if the fabric type u used was expensive? Thanks in advance and sorry for bothering u!
Hey! First of all welcome to cosplay \o/Â
For the Karasuno and Nekoma uniforms I used a fabric called active knit pique fabric from Spotlight (Australia) - itâs 100% polyester & is actually for sportswear (plus itâs pretty cheap). They no longer sell the thin variety I got though.Â
I prefer 100% polyester because itâs easier to sew, but itâs probably not a good choice if you want to sweat in your uniformâŚI suggest you look for fabrics made for sportswear. There are some polyester fabrics that can give you sufficient breathability (as for specifics, Iâm not sure sorryâŚ) You could also ask people in the fabric/sewing department at your local craft store (or any shop that sells fabric), theyâre usually very helpful :) Â
Although for the orange part for the Karasuno uniform I used an orange jersey (100% cotton) as there was no orange in the same fabric.
The fabrics I used werenât expensive (also because I bought them while they were on sale). As for cheaper alternatives itâs hard for me to give advice on that because I donât know where you live or the stores in your area sorry... :â) I have seen people buying T-shirts and modifying them though.
