This is Gatsby one of our many zebra sharks I fed two days ago. It’s bewildering that most people fear the ocean because of sharks, rays, jelly fish, etc. I’m slowly convincing people I know that they’re beautiful, fascinating, and significantly less harmless than they think. ❤️

I have to feed all 30 anemones individually. Each one gets a piece of shrimp.

My boss is having me take photos so we can start doing research and document observations about our rays. They are all tagged as in they have numbers as names. Once all the photos are done and we match them to the number, we’ll use the # to describe the rays rather than say “the baby one” or “the one with the tail that’s angled 45°”. To elaborate, right now we actually distinguish them by their tails: some are long, some are curved, some are angled- each tail is different. Also good pictures are harder than it seems. When they create ripples or parts of their bodies are fully not under direct sunlight or they move or turn too quickly, the image is ruined or blurred. I only got two good ones out of our many rays. But with the two, I photoshopped the background out and showed the edited pictures of the rays and she loved them. Anyways I’m stoked that my boss has chosen me to do this project and help with scientific research on the rays.
