You’re planning on going home? I’d have assumed you’d look for some kind of internship or summer classes here instead.

No, I was saying I won’t go home like I did last year. But yeah, I take dance lessons every summer. I’m more talking about what I’m going to do for fun. Laas summer I spent all my down time relaxing back home. I’m not sure what I want to do with my down time this year.

Okay, as long as you’re sure. So how are your rehearsals going, anyway?

They’re going well. Really well. I’m just ready for the show already. 

But you could tell me how you feel… if you feel anything at all. And yes, I will be there. I’m always going to be cheering you on.

I guess I could, but my feelings are private and I don’t feel like sharing. Look, whatever’s going on isn’t a big deal. We’re fine and it’ll be good to see you after the show.

Okay, okay, fine. After the show it is. 

I don’t know, I just want to stop feeling like things are weird between us again when I don’t even understand why. But I’m not missing your show, because even if I’m not just being paranoid, I still want to be there to support you and see how great you are firsthand. 

I can’t control how you feel, Marls. But if you’re gonna be at the show, I’ll see you after it. 

Right… public show. But you could still tell people if you wanted them there or not. I guess I’ll talk to Ryder about it, though.

I think I’m gonna be too focused on the whole dancing thing to care about who’s in the audience when I’m on stage and after the show I’m probably gonna be hanging out with people from the group. I mean, I’ll swing by and say hi if you guys are there, but I don’t really know what exactly else you want from me. 

You’re not bringing him to meet you parents, you’re bringing him to meet your friend and roommate. I mean he’s one of the only people you’ve dated, I gotta give him the shifty eyes and see if he’s cool. Yeah, yeah totally man. I wouldn’t miss it. 

Shifty eyes? Yeah, no, I think I’ll pass. You can meet him after the show.

It’s a public show, Marley. Anyone who buys a ticket can come. Ryder’s going too. You can hang with him if you want company. 

No I know I just…forget it. Uh…so it’s good though huh? Does that mean you’re gonna bring him around to the apartment and do introductions?

Yeah, it’s good, I think. I don’t know, Ry. When you put it like that it sounds like I’d be bringing him around to meet my parents or something. Not sure we’re at that level of commitment yet. Maybe you’ll meet him after the show this weekend. You’re still coming right?

Uh…but yeah! I mean…that’s great. I guess I just didn’t see you dating a guy, but dating is…it’s good.  

Well, I’ve only ever really dated one person before and she happened to be a girl. That doesn’t exactly make it a pattern of behavior. I mean, it is different, but it’s kind of...good, I guess. Some things are easier.

It’s going fine.

You’re delusional. With my dance partner actually. It turns out we have a lot in common. He asked me out and I figured why not. Maybe it’s time I try out the whole dating thing again. 

Yeah, yeah, your mom thinks you’re the cutest little pumpkin in the world. I know. 

Jealousy isn't cute, Ry. I'm pretty sure McKinley High thought I was an extremely hot pumpkin just a few years ago. And I wasn't talking about my mom. I was talking my date tonight.
