Thought you might be interested in a progress report on the next project, tentatively entitled DANCE REVOLUTIONS: STREET DANCE AND REBELLION IN AMERICAN CULTURAL HISTORY. Includes material on street dance and music: in the First Great Awakening (Kentucky frontier) c1800; Kingston JA and Bristol ENG; graffiti, whistles, sirens, street cries; Port-au-Prince and NOLA; Shakers & Ghost Dancers; Josephine Baker, Malcolm X as Lindy-hopper, Marx Brothers, Spike Lee's "Bamboozled"; Fugazi, Stonewall Uprising, Chicago/Grant Park '68, Fugazi; tango in Istanbul street protests, Sir Mix-a-Lot with the Seattle Symphony. The first full draft of the MS is *done*--coming in at around 104.5K words--and goes in to the anonymous Readers this week. Hoping for a street date before the end of the year!
