imagine being éowyn in the lord of the rings trilogy. your uncle the king is being mind controlled by an evil wizard until said evil wizard's cooler version shows up and frees him. he is accompanied by an elf, a dwarf, and the hottest guy you've ever met. the hot guy also happens to be 87 years old and maybe still not over his immortal elf girlfriend but he respects and listens to you so you're shooting your shot. your geriatric hotguy situationship turns you down the night before the biggest battle ever then goes ghost hunting in the mountains. you decide to go to battle because you'll either help save your people or die in a really cool and honorable way. you then kill middle earth satan's number one henchman with the power of loophole and being a woman (you are also helped in doing this by a 4 foot tall stoner). then you get to marry faramir. 10/10 no notes my girl went through it all

after fumbling the bag so hard in s3, bridgerton is making a comeback in s4
The World War II-era "Simple Sabotage Field Manual" is full of steps that office workers can take to resist leadership.
A declassified World War II-era government guide to “simple sabotage” is currently one of the most popular open source books on the internet. The book, called “Simple Sabotage Field Manual,” was declassified in 2008 by the CIA and “describes ways to train normal people to be purposefully annoying telephone operators, dysfunctional train conductors, befuddling middle managers, blundering factory workers, unruly movie theater patrons, and so on. In other words, teaching people to do their jobs badly.” Over the last week, the guide has surged to become the 5th-most-accessed book on Project Gutenberg, an open source repository of free and public domain ebooks. It is also the fifth most popular ebook on the site over the last 30 days, having been accessed nearly 60,000 times over the last month (just behind Romeo and Juliet).

1925 Balto and his sled driver Gunnar Kasson at the unveiling of Central Park's Balto statue. (Balto, Gunnar and their sled dog team brought life-saving diptheria medicine across Alaska during an outbreak.) From New York City Images: 1850-1980, FB.
People in the notes saying they didn't know we had pictures of Balto and Gunnar Kaasen - there are a few!
much to think about

Google's Gemini is on pace to push Copilot into third place.
"Microsoft has cut its sales targets for its agentic AI software after struggling to find buyers interested in using it. In some cases, targets have been slashed by up to 50%, suggesting Microsoft overestimated the potential of its new AI tools. Indeed, compared with ChatGPT and Google's Gemini, Copilot is falling behind, raising concerns about Microsoft's substantial AI investment.
Microsoft was an early investor in many of the latest AI companies. It ended up with a serious stake in OpenAI and benefited from early access to its models, creating Bing Chat and Copilot when Google, Meta, and Anthropic were just getting started. But now its momentum has stalled, and like everyone else, it's not making much money from its AI products. That's because no one is buying them, and that is because very few people actually find them useful, The Information reports."

For me, watching Heated Rivalry is like this:
Episode 1: I think I've read this yaoi manga.
Episode 2: I might have preferred this as manga because then I could just skim for the porn scenes
Episode 3: Hey wait, I think I've read this Stucky fanfiction
Episode 4: Shane Hollander is so fucking weird. Why am I compelled by this man's lack of personality. It's been 4 episodes and all I know about him is he likes hockey, real estate, and bottoming and those first two were his parent's ideas. Gay sex may be the only original thought he's ever had. If I met a guy this emotionally constipated, I would also want to inspect his ass. How does this actor make his expression so lifeless yet so alluring. He can only smile when he's teasing another man. His cardboard cutout persona absolutely smacks of Egg. And now they're playing the most bumping t.A.T.u remix while he's experiencing an A24 psychological horror at the club.
Episode 5: WAIT FUCK THIS IS COMING OUT WEEKLY???
Episode 5: NOW THAT'S HOW YOU MAKE FUCKING TELEVISION PEOPLE!!!! THE ROMANCE MUST BE A THRILLER!!!! IT MUST BE LIFE OR DEATH. IT MUST TERRIFY THE LOVERS AND THE VIEWER AND SHAKE THE VERY MARROW OF THEIR BONES!!!!! ALSO THERE MUST BE A NICE COTTAGE SO IT IS WRIT

I'm always happy to see another state adopt gun control policies. Given how many mass shooters show warning signs/red flags before killing people, this will save lives.
Red flag laws are considered some of the most effective gun restrictions on decreasing gun violence (mass and spree shootings, but also murders with a smaller victim count and suicides, the last two of which make up the vast majority of gun deaths in America). It's especially notable to me that this happened in Maine, a state where a significant number of people do actually own guns. As a Michigander I've been saying this for ever and ever, but both poll after survey after study and the anecdotal experience of those of us who've lived in states with a big hunting culture, shows that the vast majority of American gun owners do in fact support sensible restrictions on guns like this one. They want guns taken away from people who do mean them to harm others. Like I'm a gun-hating feminist pinko socialist liberal who wouldn't mind if they did disappear from the Earth entirely, don't get me wrong, but I think it's important to emphasize just how much these kinds of measures have broad appeal and are highly effective.
