It’s your fault

“C’mon man,” Two-Bit mumbled through his breaking voice and sobs. “C’mon Dally, you can’t die man you can’t.”

He kept pleading for my life, but whatever higher power could listen to him turned away his wishes. I wished more than anything that I could comfort him. That I could tell him it’d be okay and that I could hold him. I wished I could wipe away his tears and live for him, but with each second I didn’t help him I was getting closer to my end.

It didn’t take long for Two-Bit to realize he wasn’t keeping me around any longer by trying to save me, so with his bloodstained hands he pulled me up to him. We met in the middle, him leaning down and me being held just a few inches from the ground. His forehead was pressed against mine, pushing warmth onto my freezing skin.

I could hear his whimpers when I was this close to him. I hated it. I hated how much I hurt him without even thinking.

“I’m sorry, Keith.” I don’t know if he heard me. I could barely hear myself drag out my words.

Two-Bit only pulled me against his body, gripping wherever he could to keep me close. “Don’t be sorry Dally, it’s okay. You’re gonna live. You’re gonna be okay. And you won’t have to be sorry because we can still be okay together.”

I didn’t have the strength—or the heart—to tell him he was wrong. I felt each second slipping away, and no matter how much he tried convincing himself I’d live, he couldn’t save me.

“I’m so sorry.”
