Recruitment Day || Maximillian & Dallas
The boy was mad. It was evident by the chaos he was causing, it was even more evident by the basilisk hissing at his side, and the icing on the cake was the look in his eye when Norwood finally caught a glance. There was an evil inside him that he was sure had grown since the boy had caused this destruction. It reminded Norwood of himself, years ago. It reminded him of the first time heâd managed to make someone cry with his power. The first time heâd taken a life and the rush of feelings that had shot through him. Terror was fun and his job at the Ministry was sanctioned terror which was even better. And now? Well, the new Minister was hardly of any clout. It was time to take over. But maybe, maybe heâd do it with a right hand man. Dallas could be him, he wasnât sure â but he knew Dallas would be someone so this conversation had to go a very particular way.
âThat would be me, in the flesh,â Norwood promised, âMaximillian Norwood, lead of the Old Guard.â He wasnât sure that would mean much to the boy, and whether it would be bad or good but using his power as a leverage was something Norwood was very good at. The handshake sealed the deal for him. Firm, but not trying too hard. He was legit, at least as legit as a student could be. Anyone who could do this must be, after all. Their hands dropped, Norwoodâs encroaching on his wandâs territory again. He was no longer worried about the boy but he knew better than to trust in anyone but himself. That had gotten him burned before, something he would never forget.
The reply to the question about Norwood stopping him simply made Norwood laugh, a rip roaring sound that shook through the halls nearby. âStop you?â he said, âOn the contrary, Dallas, I want to help you.â He let that sink in as the nagas ran around the hallways, wreaking havoc. He wasnât sure he agreed with the death of innocents for fun but sometimes boys had to be boys. Thatâs where Norwood would come in, as a helping hand in guiding the young psychopath to his destiny. He could be a powerhouse against those who deserved it, those who stood in their way as Norwood rose the ranks and became the new Minister.
âAlthough weâd be talking something a bit more interesting than chasing the younger years around a castle,â he said, reaching down to brush a hand over his jacket, a stray bit dust catching his attention out of the corner of his eye. âWeâd be talking projects like this one,â he said, motioned to the basilisk and the nagas up ahead, âOn a regular basis. But for a real cause. Weâd give you motive. And of course, youâd be paid in galleons and power beyond your wildest dreams. Thatâs hardly something that even has to be discussed,â he admitted with a light shrug.
Dallas' eyes narrowed as he looked up at the older man, making a point of shaking Norwood's hand firmly. Â The man was the leader of the Old Guard, whatever the fuck that was - he had to make a good impression. Â If he managed to get on Norwood's good side, who knows? Â He might be at the top of the proverbial food chain right alongside the High Inquisitor, something Dallas craved with every cell in his body. Â As they both returned their hands to their sides, the Slytherin tracked the man's hand as Norwood placed it, knowing almost subconsciously that the man was hovering over his wand. Â And who wouldn't, faced with Dallas' basilisk and army of nagas? Â He had to give the man a couple points for common sense, he decided, looking back up into the older Slytherin's eyes. Â
His eyebrows came together in a confused frown as Norwood threw his head back and laughed at his suggestion of stopping him. Â The basilisk hissed a soft warning from her position looming above the two; she didn't like the sound of the man's laughter ringing through the halls, and thought Norwood would actually cause them harm. Â "Help me?" the boy mused, half under his breath, turning to watch as his nagas scoured the classrooms around them for other students to scare or maim. Â Dallas turned his gaze back on Norwood, licking his lips as he listened to the rest of the High Inquisitor's plan to help him. Â Once again, his eyes tracked the movement of the man's hands as he brushed at his jacket; even if the man was planning to help him, Dallas wasn't going to risk looking away for even a split second. Â
He grinned at the mention of chasing younger years around the castle, knowing it'd been more than just that. Â His robes were spattered with the blood of so many students he'd lost count, students his nagas had either maimed or killed, and one student he'd personally killed. Â If this man was legit, Dallas wasn't about to pass up the opportunity to keep dirtying his robes. Â And getting paid in galleons beyond his wildest dreams? Â That was much too good to pass up. Â "When can we start?" he asked, crossing his arms and settling back on his heels so he wouldn't seem like a threat anymore. Â He even hissed at his basilisk, telling her to back away a few feet.
One of his nagas hissed out an alarm then, arm snaking into a room down the hall and yanking a first year Hufflepuff out into the hallway with Dallas and Norwood. Â The young boy was shaking with fear as his eyes flickered between the fourth year Slytherin and the tall man in the suit. Â Dallas turned away from Norwood, squaring off to the boy in front of him and watching almost impassively as the boy struggled against the naga's iron grip. Â He barked out a command, eyes narrowed at the naga, and it let the Hufflepuff go. Â Another command soon followed as the Slytherin watched the young boy flee, and half the nagas followed, hissing in glee as they chased their prey. Â A smirk curling the corners of his lips, Dallas turned back to the High Inquisitor. Â "You were saying?"
