Mark Summers Creates Beautiful Art One Small Mark At a Time

Scratchboard artist Mark Summers makes remarkable art by removing material.    With delicate use of small tools he removes a small layer at a time off a prepared scratch board, revealing these fantastic images.  The detail that goes into the animals of his animal series is amazing!  Mark Summers also creates editorial illustrations and pieces for magazines and newspapers.

London-based illustrator Sandra Dieckmann has been creating rich and wonderfully vivid realisations of “nature and wildlife, drifting, dreams and the things that touch her personally” since realising her passion for illustration and graphic design in 2006.  Dieckmann’s works in pen, pencil and ink have graced magazines, book covers and galleries throughout the world, with clients such as World Wildlife Fund,  Al Jazeera, Magma Books, Andersen Press and Random House. In 2011 Sandra was chosen by Oscar winning animator and illustrator Shaun Tan as the Emerging Talent in Illustration for her image ‘Fox Tree’ and in 2013, Etsy flew her to Australia and New Zealand to speak at Semi Permanent Conferences about her life and work.

Mia Pearlman was born in the USA in 1974. Since receiving her BFA from Cornell University in 1996, she has exhibited internationally in numerous galleries and non-profit spaces.

I make site-specific cut paper installations, ephemeral drawings that inhabit space in both two and three dimensions. I first make complex line drawings on large rolls of paper in India ink. Then I cut out selected areas to create a new drawing, made of positive and negative space, on the reverse. Pinned into a sculptural form, these forms create a drawing in space. And finally, their shadows produce a wholly new drawing on and around the three dimensional drawing.

She has participated in numerous residencies (Lower East Side Printshop, Vermont Studio Center) and is a recipient of the Pollock-Krasner Foundation grant. Pearlman lives and works in Brooklyn, NY.
