Red Robin #8
hm.
i feel like one of the most tragic things about tim is that out of the robins, he never grew up loved.
dick had two parents who loved him very much, jason had catherine who took him in and raised and loved him as her son despite him not being her biological son, stephanie has her mother, and i very firmly believe that talia loves damian whatever strained relationship they have (and yes i’m aware that she killed him but i attribute that to poor characterization of talia on the writers’ part).
but tim grew up neglected, in a cold empty mansion with a maid that didn’t care about him to the extent he was able to wander gotham at night. and just when jack drake decided to try and become a better father, he was killed.
and although bruce and alfred have paternal presence in all their kids lives, tim is the only one who would have been unaccustomed to someone caring about him because he never had it before. and that’s really sad
(PS bruce cares about his kids - tom king do not interact)

Timmy
"tim drake is a boring character because he hasn't suffered" part 1
But Tim, I have to hand it to the boy. He wants to be the world’s greatest detective. And from what I’ve seen so far, he will some day.
I’m working on making peace with the fact Tim’s getting a new name.
After all it’s Tim I truly care about, as long as he acts like himself, I can deal with the rest even if I honestly don’t like the identity or costume change.
I feel he should remain Robin, because it simply makes sense for his story right now, but if it’s some forced editorial decision-
-at least do it well
I couldn’t even freaking recognize him here, and it’s bumming me out so much. I been waiting so long for Young Justice to come out, and I was so happy to find out that literally the only times I didn’t like how Tim was drawn in the first issue was the pages they shared, and now he looks like this.
That doesn’t look like Tim. He looks more generic action lead in that.
–
This looks like Tim
Same artist, slightly different look. Still incredibly recognizable as Tim.
A completely different style, but I can look at this, and still react as “OH, LOOK AT TIM, HE LOOKS REALLY COOL!”
Another separate artist, but it still looks like Tim.
This art style’s even a bit more cartoony and feels like Tim.
Another lovely Tim!
Even Tim’s appearance in another series still looks like him
Here’s a Tim from a different era of his life, and even OLDER. This is a Tim Drake that’s 17 years old and very close to 18 years old. Which is OLDER than the CURRENT Tim that’s 16 years old, and yet it still looks like Tim.
Tim is notoriously baby-faced, that so much so, at close to 18 he still looks younger than his real age, almost like–
He’s SUPPOSED to look younger than his actual age. He’s 17 in that one too, still older than what he currently is.
–
All these different artists with occasionally vastly different art styles can all draw Tim to keep consistent and recognizable.
If it takes a moment to be able to recognize your own favorite character, something just feels wrong.
and it took me a moment again, to realize that was even Tim in that picture and not another new member. I genuinely thought that was a new member until I realized Tim was no where to be found.
I’m working on making peace with the fact Tim’s getting a new name (or so it seems, lotta work on the art for a ruse, but I’d prefer it to be a ruse honestly), but if you’re gonna give him a new identity-
- at least freaking draw him to look like himself.
Please.
(I want Gleason back so bad)
There’s the uneasy feeling that DC is trying to turn Tim into a replacement for Dick (not Ric) Grayson personality wise. If you look at the black and white drawing of Tim in the new costume, I would swear that it’s Dick from his Teen Titans days, right down to the way his hair curls.
Granted each artist has their own way of drawing characters, but DC seems unable to agree what Tim basically should look like across their universe. No one draws Batman as a short, thin man. Tim shouldn’t be a clone of Dick Grayson.
John Timms draws Tim so dangerously close to Dick that it has me worried to the point of queasiness.
I want to cry… My baby Timmy :“(

“Like a panther, he moves fast and low. In truth, more like a raccoon or a ferret. But don’t tell him that.”
