Rare photograph of Dorothy with her first husband, Herbie Kay in 1933.
Her agent thought that the marriage would be useless, short and career-threatening. However, they were dead set in their ways. Knowing they could practically get married in seconds in Harrison, with no wait, they hailed a cab and off they went. Little did they know, there are two Harrison locations: one in New York and one in New Jersey. Winding up in the wrong Harrison, they had to return home, unmarried.
Flying to Illinois, they stopped off in Chicago long enough to pick up Dorothy Gulman, friend/head of public relations for the Morrison Hotel, who was maid-of-honor for the Dottie and Herbie wedding. They were married on May 10th of 1935.

Dottie with Bob Hope in a rare post-ceremony photograph at Grauman’s Chinese Theater on February 5th, 1943.
This was taken during the broadcast that took place afterwards, where Dorothy would describe to the audience that Bob had made a nose imprint, and what a delight he looked.
Dorothy and Bob were both asked to make their impressions in the cement on the same night since they were linked together from their Road To... films. Missing was Bing Crosby who had already interred his prints in 1936.
