Malware needs to know if it's in the Matrix
Once a security researcher discovers a new strain of malicious software â running a virtual machine on a test-bench â and adds its signature to anti-virus and network monitor blacklists, itâs game over. So todayâs malware devotes enormous energy to figuring out if itâs running on a real computer, or inside one of its enemiesâ virtual worlds.

"14-year-old Parkview High School Freshman, Caleb Christian was concerned about the number of incidents of police abuse in the news.  Still, he knew there were many good police officers in various communities, but had no way of figuring out which communities were highly rated and which were not. Â
So, together with his two older sisters: Parkview High School senior Ima Christian, and Gwinnett School of Math, Science, and Technology sophomore, Asha Christian, they founded a mobile app development companyâ Pinetart Inc., under which they created a mobile app called Five-O. Five-O, allows citizens to enter the details of every interaction with a police officer.  It also allows them to rate that officer in terms of courtesy and professionalism and provides the ability to enter a short description of what transpired.  These details are captured for every county in the United States. Citizen race and age information data is also captured.
Additionally, Five-O allows citizens to store the details of each encounter with law enforcement; this provides convenient access to critical information needed for legal action or commendation.â

DSON. Doge Object Notation. Really.
"Thatâs why advocates should not be talking about protecting net neutrality. They shouldnât even use that phrase. They should call it "Preventing Cable Company F!#@ery" because that is what it is. And⌠there might actually be something you can still do.â
The FCC is trying to create a tiered, unequal internet, where corporations can pay more for faster speeds. They want you to leave them comments on this decision. Give âem your worst.
1. XKit Packs
Historically, developing for XKit was pretty hard, since it was pretty much a walled garden: in order to publish your extensions, you had to send them to me, wait for me to inspect them and then add them to the extension gallery. Or you could host and share your extensions yourself, but that would mean your users would have to use the XKit Editor, and would not get automatic updates.
With XKit Packs, anyone can publish extensions, and anyone can install them with just a few clicks. And they work mostly like ânormalâ XKit extensions: when the developer updates their extension, you get the updates automatically. The only difference is that they are not listed on the Extension Gallery, meaning that developers have to promote them themselves.
Packs also come with a âkill switchâ, so if I become aware of a malicious extension, I will mark it as so, and XKit will remove it on the next update check.
For more information, please click here.
2. XCloud Web Access
XCloud Web Access allows you to access your XCloud account on any computer, even mobile devices.
For now, itâs very, very limited, and you can only view a summary of your last backup and change your password, but in the future, youâll be able to view your archived posts, bookmarks, and share your Themes+ themes, as well as set up a password recovery e-mail address.
I was going to wait until it was completely finished, but since itâs used for publishing XKit Packs, and password changing can be useful for others, itâs now available in itâs current limited form.
You can give it a try at xkit.info/xcloud/

^ Literally me every time i do a project!Â
In retrospect, I'm a little embarassed that I didn't think of creating a similar system in my vanilla JS implementations of Google Web Speech. It seems to be a fairly straightforward RegExp analysis, coupled with a function call that has been passed the returned string. Doubt I'd come up with way to code for it that is so elegant, but oh well. Never actually built an API or library for use by others yet. Might be a useful exercise in agile methods?Â
Man, Annyang is so much easier to write for than Google voice! It take all the hard work out of voice recognition, it's damn trivial at this point! Kinesthesiac Soft is so close to becoming real, and I'm so excited! The next year will be very exciting. Work visas are really confusing though. Then again, I'm a little bit of a fringe case. Strange that the Canadian entrepreneur/self-employed visas only apply to athletes, coaches and farmers though. Oh well. I'll figure it out somehow. Life is easier once you've got a citizen helping you out. He's also a comp sci minor, so he can help with the code too! All this is good stuff! I'm just so excited to get to do something real though, and Google Code Jam is in just a few days! I've been practising writing C++, since non-C languages are likely not going to cut it in a competition like that which is so algorithm runtime sensitive. Would be fun to get past at least the first round though! Wouldn't hurt getting to the finals for sure, but I'm not getting my hopes up too much. I may be a decent programmer, but there are some fricking amazing ones that will be competing there. Anyways, back to Brackets...

The sites insisting on using BTC as point of comparison for price for other altcoin kind of annoy me. BTC is so volatile, you have no idea whether or not price fluctuations are caused by that or the currency you're looking at.Â
