canaan grew up in a small town in upstate new york. his parents were both musicians, so he was very heavily trained in music at a young age, which turned him into a musical prodigy, specifically on the piano. at the age of seven he was hired to professionally travel across the east coast to perform at galas. he was pretty much destined for success.

he was always a really happy and ecstatic kid, even with the stress and pressure of performing at such professional events. however, when canaan was eleven his family was involved in a car crash, and both of his parents and his little brother, colin, were killed. after losing his family, he lost all of his hope and energy for his future. he destroyed his piano and his sheet music, and hasn’t touched a piano since.

canaan was moved to florida to live with his aunt cara. he didn’t participate in class discussions, distanced himself from making any new friends, and once he reached senior year he dropped out of school and joined the airforce until he was 24. when he returned to florida, he got a job at deja vu as a barista and has worked there for the last year. 

canaan is clueless when it comes to thinking about his future. he didn’t learn anything in school because of his lack of focus, and he has no interest in going to college. as a kid, his dream was to continue being a professional pianist, but now he can’t sit at a piano without breaking down or having an anger flash. whenever this happens, he turns to alcohol to calm him down (making him semi-alcoholic).

he’s a little distant and sometimes can be really mean. he may have established a pessimistic view of the world, and at first it’s really hard to get to know him, but now all he wants is to find something to reverse that.
