“Put him on his knees give him something to believe in” has the exact same energy and depth of meaning as anything Hozier puts out on the regular but since it’s sung by Megan Thee Stallion no one takes it seriously. In this essay I will-
To flesh this out a little bit more: both Megan Thee Stallion and Hozier write and sing really sexual songs, but they’re different in that Hozier’s music is typically “let me worship you” while Megan’s is usually “I’m worshipping myself,” which makes all the difference because it’s an acceptance of power rather than the giving of it. He’s the sinner, she’s the saint. However, taking their difference in genres out of it, people don’t usually seem to take Megan Thee Stallion’s music seriously in comparison to Hozier because a) her lyrics are more overtly and blatantly sexual and b)she’s claiming her sexuality for herself, and that scares a lot of people. The secret, no-one-wants-to-talk-about reason is that she’s a confident black woman, which terrifies people way than sex does. In conclusion, Hozier and Megan Thee Stallion are two sides of the same poetic, sexual coin, but people just don’t want to admit it. Which is WHY a collaboration between Hozier and Megan would be so powerful that it would change the timeline as we know it yes I will elaborate

your f/o would not want to hurt you nor want you to hurt yourself. they'd be proud that you haven't relapsed, but even if you have, they'd be proud that you're still trying. and even if you're not and it feels like it's impossible, they would still understand and support you the best they could.
Genuine good faith question coming from a fellow selfshipper who respects ur opinion:
Is it problematic/wrong to selfship with a character who was canonically abusive to their spouse? Not sexually ofc, just verbally.
I’m genuinely not sure where domestic abuse falls on the problematic behaviour scale, and wanted to ask your opinion since you selfship with a character who’s literally a serial killer lol
CW mentions of abuse. Long ass discussion.
Hi friend! I wanted to give this some thought but I've had the general consensus that self shipping with villainous characters or morally grey to black ones weighs on these: Authorial Intent, Portrayal, and People Affected IRL.
In BTTWNS' case, the reason I even decided to self ship with Sam is because BTTWNS is an examination of Sam's character outside of her crimes and how the consequences of that seep into her peaceful life endangering the safety of the people she associates with (and herself). The stories you can set in BTTWNS' world will ask the same question: "What would Sam do if...[Situation]?" (What would Sam do if another killer shows up to Woodbrook and gives her unwanted attention? / What would Sam do if someone related to her victims wants to confront her?). Sam is explicitly shown to be the worse person in every single one of these scenarios and the fun in that is navigating how she gets to rationalize how she intends on taking that peace back. And it always ends in a tragedy. My self ship although fluffy and fun on the surface asks the same question: "What would Sam do if someone showed romantic interest in her?" then "What would Sam do if her partner gets too close and finds out about her secret?". Ultimately her killing people comes with the consequence the people around her are indirectly hurt even if they aren't explicit victims because she'll put her safety and comfort first when push comes to shove or that she's never really emotionally There to begin with. If the story is a character study and it is open to What Ifs, I think romance is fine as a possible avenue if that is what you wish.
My thoughts on this of course will be vastly different if I was related to anyone who was murdered for any reason. I know that there are very real victims of killings such as hers, but I don't want to glorify her actions or brush them aside. I acknowledge Sam is a killer. I do not condone her actions. It is important and the bare minimum people should do if they have slasher f/os. There is a time and a place for fluff and unserious imagines and fics, and a time and a place to discuss the text itself.
I don't know everyone in the selfship community but I think we've got a lot more folks here in the community that have experienced some form of abuse- whether physical, emotional, or verbal than family members or friends of victims of serial killers. The chances are never zero but given what folks here are willing to share, I believe that shipping with an abuser is a lot more risky with the three factors I heed to.
Let me ask you this: what role does this character have in the story? Are they a protagonist or a secondary character? Do they go through an arc? HOW is the arc written and are the victims of abuse set aside to coddle the abuser? Is it a character study or is it a dufferent type of story?
Is the abuse consistent? Is it shown graphically? Do they repeat the behavior? Do they get punished or called out for it or is it left unaddressed when they get better?
In my opinion I would not f/o a domestic abuser. You run the risk if minimizing real victims and survivors of abuse and you run the risk of minimizing the abuse itself when you say "but xyz wouldn't do it to ME though!"
I guess the general rule of thumb here is racists, nazis, rapists, and abusers should not be f/os.

if you selfship with a racist character, ESPECIALLY a character who's a nazi or klansman or colonizer, i'm just assuming you're racist too
"but they have a character arc-" "but the story handles dark themes-" "but they're fictional-"
and that's where the issue lies. for YOU, racism is just fictional set dressing for your favorite fictional racist
but for so many of us in the selfship community, it's real. it's so so so so SO real. we have to deal with it every single day of our fucking lives. and when we go home and just want to daydream about our F/Os, we STILL have to deal with it too!!!! even when we think we're in a safe space built around love, we STILL see racism!!!! oh my fucking god!!!!
no character is """"hot"""" enough to justify racism. no amount of half-baked excuses can cover your racist bullshit. just stop it. we're all so fucking tired
