Can we talk about how real episode 4 was? The adventure isn't treated like an adventure at all.
If you just remade a few things (have the cast in their actual, human form; have the customers be normal humans as well; removed the weird torture chamber) then it'd just be real life.
In fact, I'm pretty sure the only time anyone mentioned that it's an adventure, that its not real, was this scene:
Even though the npcs are wacky and weird, they all act like an actual customer would. Our main cast actually works a shift at a fast food restaurant, they cook, they clean, they take orders, and they treat the whole thing like it's real, because its so close to being that way.
All of the other adventures we've seen are nowhere close to that, they all have some sort of storyline and unnatural/strange environment - an absurd looking circus tent/cave, candyland, a horror manor. They're all like a quest, a game, a distraction created for our main cast so they don't go completely insane.
I find it ironic how despite the fact that Gangle was the one to suggest something "normal" for an adventure, she was the one who was negatively affected by it the most.
It reminded her of her real life before she got send into the circus - that life seemingly being not that great.
She's reminded that being a manager is hard, that she has to deal with everything her subordinates say to her.
That her dreams never came true.
That shes trapped for god knows how long in this digital world, that, since there's no exit, will she never go home? Will her dreams remain unachieved, forever?
She ended up so tired and broken by the end of the adventure that she almost abstracted.
I'd like to add that this ep affected Jax, too. The most obvious difference, of course, is his little interaction with Pomni where he's just being, normal. Kind of friendly, even. And it seems like he's acting that way because he's simply tired. (Being a hater takes a lot of effort, after all) But others have pointed out (and I agree with them) that him in that little scene - is him how he was before he got into the circus, which, honestly, that makes sense. There's definitely a big difference between being a constant jerk to everyone around you irl, where there's always consequences vs being a jerk to like, five or so people in a world that isn't quite real.
+ seems like the shift made him feel exhausted, as well.
And yeah, they have to drive off, too? That just adds another detail to the realism of the episode.
