What is a livelyhood project? A livelihood project is a micro enterprise that may consist of one artisan or a community of people that use their gifts and abilities to produce high quality handicrafts. The handicrafts are generally those that are indigenous to the area made of local materials. Support these artisans by purchasing their handmade goods at www.shopwithamission.com
It’s official! City of Lions will be the headliner band for Night of Hope! City of lions is a pop/rock band from Orange County, CA who took mainstage at JoshuaFest where they played along side with Switchfoot, Emery, Jars Of Clay, and other Christian bands. They have been featured on JCTV and are quite famous on their Youtube channel, not to mention Ellie Goulding herself is a fan of the band! We cannot wait to have them perform on our stage.
You are my refuge and my shield; I have put my hope in your word. Psalm 119:114 NIV
This year, Night of Hope will be raising money for Heavenly Treasures, a non-profit organization where every product represents a changed life. Heavenly Treasures believes that livelihood projects are vehicles to empower the poor and oppressed by helping to break the cycle of poverty. To learn more, please visit their website at www.heavenlytreasures.org.
We are excited to announce that the opening band for this year's Night of Hope will be Heatyn, a Concordia University Irvine alumni rock band based here in Orange County! Stay tuned next week as we announce our headliner.

But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Isaiah 40:31
Inside the Mind of the Director of Marketing and Advertising for CUI Night of Hope
Before we get started, let me introduce myself as that is the polite thing to do. My name is Shea Marie Frates (and yes, I like going by my full name) and I am the Director of Marketing and Advertising for CUIÂ Night of Hope 2015. I was asked by Mariah Neilson to head up the marketing and adverting for the event because of my previous experience. I am the Social Media Intern in the Marketing and Communications office at Concordia University Irvine in addition to being a student blogger (which is where I got the idea to start a Night of Hope Tumblr blog). I am really excited to be in charge of this part of the event and I promise to give my all to making this event as great as possible.
So what do I do as the Director of Marketing and Advertising? Well, the first thing I did was create a game plan. I did this by asking myself a couple of questions... What do you want the event to look like? Who do you want to reach? How are you going to reach them? Etc. Once I answered all those questions, I asked some amazingly talented people to join the team so that we can achieve that end result together.
One of our goals this year is to reach outside of the Concordia community. The way I saw this happening was to re-brand the Night of Hope image, establish our social media accounts, and create a website. So the first thing I did was reach out to Eric Stigna, a graphic design major at Concordia University Irvine, to re-design the logo. After that, I either created or updated the existing social media accounts to make them uniform and interconnected, and then asked the web team at Concordia to create a landing page on the CUI website.
In addition to being the mastermind behind the marketing, I am also running social media. A lot of people think that social media is just posting a picture or a status update, but it is so much more than that, especially when you are posting as a brand. I need to figure out who my audience is, what message I want to convey to them, and the way in which I get my message across. On top of that, I need to either create graphics for each post or find an image, schedule posts across various social channels, create content to post, and track links and clicks just to name a few. As you can see, there is a lot more that goes into social media than what meets the eye.
Other things that my team and I need to get done include creating the Night of Hope promotional video, charity video, band videos, student involvement videos, press releases, contacting the journalists, newspapers, news stations, and bloggers, designing the t-shirt and brochure, creating social media cover photos and flyers, and updating the website. You have just had a look inside of the mind of the director of marketing and advertising. Are you overwhelmed yet? Don't be! It may sound like a lot but it is really easy to accomplish. All you need is a little patience and a lot of hard work and I can guarantee that everything will get done. I can't wait to see how this year's Night of Hope plays out!
