Noctis was really trying to make her feel at home, maybe it was the fact that he never thought he could have a sibling, even if she was a girl. But when he met her in that royal clinic in the Citadel, he knew she needed not only to get in shape but to feel that she could trust everyone there, something that she didnt do. And as perceptive as the prince was when something meant a lot for him, he decided to do something about it.

He knew someone really capable of making anyone feel at home, even if it wasn’t their home, Ignis could help him with that, he had that kind of magic in him. So the day he asked him about it, as a sign of good will and effort, the prince arrived early to his sesion of general politics knowledge with his advisor, paid full attention and did everything right, just to get his attention.

It was that strange in the normally distracted and daydreaming prince, that it worked and that’s when he asked Ignis to see if he could help his sister feel at home, worried about her well being.

Noctis was indeed worried.

Meera was so broken and emotionally wounded that she tried to request her father to free her from her right to the crown and any ties to the royal family of Lucis, not feeling strong enough to go on. Proving her fear to suffer any longer because of that.

But of course that the king wouldn’t allow that to happen never, even if he knew that there were plans for the future of his family. Something or someone granted him the blessing of seeing the daughter he believed dead long ago, reflection of her mother; safe and sound and he wasn’t going to lose her again.  So he denied the princess such request and Noctis supported his father in that matter.

That day the princess was in her study, reading documents, things about Insomnia´s laws and matters of state she needed to know. She even had the chance to look at some of her mother´s work as queen, one of those charity projects she wanted to develop for her people, that helped citizens in need and those refugees from Galahd that lived within the wall. Alone as she always was since her arrival, she walked around books and folders, for almost three hours non stop.

Even when her health demanded her to take it slow.

Ignis, of course, remained tenacious. Steadfast and sure, he knew he had to remain the rock in the midst of the confusion and turmoil. Even for the princess. It went beyond even a sense of duty and settled in him as a simple sense of basic human compassion. She needed someone, he knew, and though he didn't understand what she must have felt, of grasp what she had gone through, he knew one feeling.

He... loathed the idea of anyone being alone.

So when the prince came to request his aid in welcoming her, he was certainly happy to help. (Of course, seeing him pay extra attention during council meetings made for a nice change.)

He had spent most of his day cooking, preparing a meal of comfort foods that he thought might help Meera feel welcome. Hearty, warm stew, home-brewed, hand-crafted tea, and warm, sweet-snelling bread. Simple, but surely refreshing from the rich meals prepared by royal cooks.

It was instinct that drove the prince’s feet forward, hesitant, and nerves that encouraged the fidgeting of his fingers. It wasn’t often that Noct was rendered so insecure, and it had certainly been a long time since he chose to speak his mind to anyone. He simply wasn’t the sort to entrust his feelings with others, having always been more on the reserved side. But the past few days, a great deal had been resting on his shoulders, and even more had been weighing on his tired mind. He could feel things threatening to boil over as they approached Altissia, and everything seemed to set in.

Everything seemed to become… real.

He knew, despite his pride, that he couldn’t keep his doubts entirely to himself. And if he was going to entrust his heart with anyone, it would be his oldest friend.

Pushing a small pile of jackets aside, he slid his glasses into place, setting the needle and thread away.

Noct’s body language was deeply familiar. From relaxed social settings to official events, Ignis knew what to look for and when to look for it. It was the difference between leaving Noctis to endure and calling time on an encounter, protocol permitting.

He gestured, encouraging him to settle close by. 

There was silence for a moment, save for the crackling of the campfire casting it's soft light, and the calls of the beasts of Duscae. The haven created a full thrum of energy in the air, and the faint feeling of safety, but it did nothing to soothe Noctis's pounding heart.

He sighed heavily. Best to get this over with.

“Hey, Prom.” Noct’s voice was kind, as he regarded his friend. Concerned, really. There had certainly been high pressure for the past few days: a constant feeling of running back and forth that left the crew feeling tired and drained. Tensions were high, as they usually were, but even the prince had to admit that he and Gladio had been seeing eye to eye less and less lately. Poor Ignis had his hands full playing mediator, as per usual. And Prompto-.

Well, Noctis thought with no shortage of shame, he hadn’t exactly bothered to check in with the other, lately. But with Gladio off training and Ignis preparing dinner, it was as good an opportunity as any to talk.

He’d been shrinking into the background the more the bickering picked up. Astrals knew he’d tried to get everyone to chill out, especially Gladio, but they either tuned him out or swatted him aside. He didn’t blame them. 

Was he hungry? Expectations; yes, reality; no. Thinking was making him nauseous. Sitting around acting like he had the right to be the emotionally exhausted one instead of helping was making him nauseous. 

“I’m good, dude, just uh, taking… Prompto Time… You and Iggy need help to set stuff up?” He glanced up at Noct again, settling for blinking owlishly at him.

When had talking to Noct and knowing what to say to him gotten that hard? They’d been so close once, and now… He missed it. 

He knew that he was the cause of the rift between them all. Even if no one would actually tell him such, he knew...

And still, he could see the guilt in Prompto's eyes, like he had something to sit there and blame himself over.

Noctis wanted to fix things, even despite his pride.

"Sounds nice," he whispered, a soft, uneasy smile curling his lips. "We're fine; I'd hate to, ya know... interrupt."
