in 2007 anti-democracy sentiment was mostly a lib thing. you'd hear someone talking about Idiocracy, the need to bring back literacy tests for the vote, or even eugenics, and it would probably be someone complaining about bush. these idiots, these inbreds, these bible-thumpers of poor genetic quality, they went and voted for a moron who got us into iraq!
Is anti-democracy not still mostly a lib thing? The actual number of people who believe something like "the present order must be overthrown and replaced with some sort of regime that legitimizes itself in ways other than elections" is minuscule. Most of what counts for right-wing sentiment in America and her Colonies, by which we understand, of course, the people who are either a) not invited to the party or b) uninvited themselves for ideological reasons, is very demotic in nature, because if systemic elites are hard to come by, counter-elites are even harder to come by. But the systemic elites are very anti-democratic! They spend all their time trying to protect their autonomy from the plebs rebelling against the things they do with that autonomy. In some pathological cases, like the Federal Republic of Germany and its charmingly 20th century political system, this proceeds in a very overt manner; in most other countries, you just see an increasing colonization of most of the actual levers of policy by the security state.
