Is This Normie Life?
A while ago, I translated Hyadain's "リア充ってこんなもんだっけ" (Riajuu tte Konna Mon Dakke) for a class and I thought it'd be nice to share my translation with anyone curious! I am a student, so by no means is it perfect, but I was really happy to finally be able to understand a song I've been enjoying.
Lyrics below!
I’ve never fallen in love Betrayer! My friend! You got a girlfriend!
Is this what normie life* is like? Even though it’s been 3 months since we started dating, I still can’t hold her hand… (Seriously?) Seriously. (That’s crazy.) I’m also accumulating stress and “that!”
You’re my friend, but got a secret head start My years without a girlfriend equals my age Sympathy for him? Impossible! (Help me out!) No way, no way!! Extravagance is the enemy!!!
Why aren’t you mailing me everyday? Didn’t you promise to call me before bed? Who’s more important, me or your friend?
Aah, how troublesome (Certainly troublesome) Is this normie life? (Baby boy) Birthdays and Christmas (Slaving boy) Anniversary of the day we met (You’re my boy) Presents every week Even though you’re working part time and saving up, it’s still not enough! Serves you right!
(Baby boy) Pouting right away (Slaving boy) Or suddenly crying (You’re my boy) This is just how it is Mu-mu-mu-mu-mu-mutual love
I’m way too jealous over him having a girlfriend and stuff From the bottom of my heart, I wish him EXP☆LODE☆NOR☆MIE If you have time to flirt, go pick up trash normie!
I fulfilled my heart’s desire and got a girlfriend!! I’ll become a love master!! (Inexperienced in the 3D world, we’re Cherry Boys) I’m getting worked up, tonight there’ll be a spark!!“I’m not really doing anything,” he says but… Having a girlfriend and not having a girlfriend are two different worlds (Do you want me to give her to you?) You’re seriously annoying (It’s really tough) I don’t get it at all~~~
Wait, I’m going to get my nails done! Sorry for being 30 minutes late! Oh yeah, wait in line at the pancake place for me!
Is this the default? (Is it not like this?) The normie life I dreamed
(Baby boy) Like when she laughs (Slaving boy) It’s a bit off (You’re my boy) I’ve gotta persevere, huh… That simple chemistry isn’t bad
(Baby boy) For the first time in my life (Slaving boy) I’ve fallen in love (You’re my boy) It’s important, mu-mu-mu-mu-mu-mutual loveWhen you invite me to hang, our hangouts are weird You’re always messing with your phone I might be jealous of you for having a girlfriend and stuff, but Haven’t things been off lately?
(Baby boy) If I’m honest, (Slaving boy) Being with you is more fun (You’re my boy) If you talk like this, weird rumors’ll spread, so stop, my friend!
(Baby boy) For the first time in my life (Slaving boy) I’ve fallen in love (You’re my boy) It’s important, mu-mu-mu-mu-mu-mutual love
First love!! The everyday route to school Trudging back home Did I fall in love? We can’t fly through the sky mu-mu-mu-mu-mu-mutual love

Translation Notes
*The original term is リア充 (Riajuu), which is online slang for a person who is satisfied with their life in the real world.
**The original term is 贅沢 (Zeitaku), which means luxury or in this case, living luxuriously (from a social angle) through having a girlfriend.
***The original term is derived from 爆発しろ (Bakuhatsu shiro), which is an online phrase coming from otaku and other social-outcasts aimed towards those enjoying their fulfilling offline lives, telling them to “explode.”
****Cherry Boy is slang for a male virgin, which possibly derives from the term “popping one’s cherry,” when referring to having sex for the first time.
*****The term ムッシュムラムラ (Mushhu Muramura) refers to a gag from Dachou Club, which borrows the phrase from the 1967 Fantastic Four cartoon’s Japanese dub. The voice actor for the character ‘The Thing’ originally ad-libbed the phrase and throughout the series called it out when his character was psyching himself up for battle or during fights. The term ムラムラ (Muramura) colloquially means “to get aroused,” and the comedy group Dachou Club popularized the phrase when they used it as part of one of their famous skits.
