     “Yeah...”

simple   question,   difficult   answer.   he   didn’t   expect   carlos   to   understand   just   why   he   still   competed   in   the   fights   on   the   back alley   of   his   dad’s   shop.   not   many   did.   sometimes   he   didn’t.   “   it’s…   complicated.   it’s   not   that   bad,   I’m   a   good   fighter,   so   I   always   win.   ”

     Gil’s explanation of it being ‘complicated’ tells Carlos immediately that the reason why is most likely rather personal and perhaps not something that he should pry into much. He can ponder the possible answers all he wants and draw some reasonable conclusions, but ultimately, it’s none of his business. It’s not as if the two of them are particularly close, and even if they were, well, there’s some things that he still keeps guarded from even Mal, Jay and Evie, as much as he loves and trusts them more than anything. 

     They’ve all got their demons, after all. Everyone from the Isle does, and maybe this is just one of Gil’s. 

“i understand.” it’s not meant as a slight towards mal or jay, but between the three of them, evie is the best for carlos to go to for this sort of thing. which is to say, she actually admits that she has feelings and that they’re not always good. she sighs softly before nodding. “yeah, i do. i get really sad sometimes, and there’s not always a reason. i don’t really know how to fix it, but you can always come to me, okay?”

     Yeah, Evie gets it.

     He knew she would, and while that doesn’t make him happy, because he would never want her to be sad, it’s nonetheless a bit comforting that he’s not alone in feeling this way.

Love for you is about comfort and familiarity. Love is that feeling of coming home. It’s about always finding a way back to each other no matter what, because your love is stronger than what can keep you apart. “I slithered here from Eden just to sit outside your door” fits this so perfectly. Overcoming anything that has separated you, but also there’s something so gentle and true about waiting at your lover’s doorstep. It’s a pure connection of patience and belonging. You have belonged together since the beginning of time, and you feel that in your chest when you see them. There’s a magical eternity there between your souls.
