We went to the site of Limburg Abbey, the monastery that was the origin of the wurstmarkt, back when people offered hospitality to guests on religious pilgrimage. It was strange to have Indian food from a family that spoke German but not English. And it was definitely tamed for the German palate. We enjoyed a saffron turmeric chai latte with our lamb curry, palak paneer, and chicken tikka masala. So it’s a salt graduation tower. Bad Dürkheim is home to springs that for centuries have been used for salt. Brine is pumped and poured over brush to evaporate and concentrate the salt level for it later to be dried out and harvested. On Thursday they had several places in mind to try and show me- which ended up being closed. So they said we couls@go home or go to the town of the Wurstmarkt, which in name is about bratwursts but is actually the world’s largest wine festival. We accidentally drove down right where we later ate lunch outside, paid to get thru a turnstile for toilets, and found a vending machine for bike tires.
