My plan is to email them every time I want to go somewhere but can't.

Email 1: hello, please fix sidewalks so I can ride the bus places I am very passionate about public transportation and also being able to leave my house.

Email 200: This morning I woke up and wanted some delicious coffee to start my day, but upon getting out of bed I discovered we were out of coffee. I would've liked to take advantage of the city's public transportation system in order to support a local business like [examples of local coffee shops] but alas I cannot because I am a wheelchair user and my neighborhood is not wheelchair accessible. [Insert rest of arguement RE accessibility]. In conclusion I don't work I can keep these emails coming until I die please just fix my sidewalks.

You are well within your right to be angry about having your needs neglected.

My ceiling hoists were due their 6 monthly inspection today and part of me was like “I’m not having any problems with them, there’s no visible wear and tear, do we really have to do this again?”

And then the engineer came and was working at the first one for like an hour which is really unusual. Even with weight testing them it doesn’t usually take that long.

It turned out there was a fault with it that meant that at any point the fabric band that takes my weight could have come off the spool, gotten chewed up by the mechanism and dropped me to the floor from ceiling height. It needed completely taking apart to replace that mechanism, and there were absolutely no warning signs that it was broken.

good for u that turning off the lights and lighting a scented candle instead and listening to music or put on a show and using a bath bomb etc etc helps u but like none of those tips are that beneficial for physically disabled ppl specifically.

addicts in active addiction with no intention of quitting

phys disabled people who deny medical treatment

neurodivergent people who deny psychiatric treatment (yes, including schizophrenic people and people with personality disorders)

trans people who want or don't want to medically transition (yes, including trans masc lesbians with top surgery and trans women without bottom surgery, yall are so weird to them wtf)

It’s easier and less acutely painful to just coast and not actively work on ‘getting better’. Is the work worth it? I don’t know yet.

however, everyone should care about accessibility because disabled people are fellow human beings living in the same society as you who deserve the same rights as you

Being a messy eater makes you no less human, no less valid, no less mature. Being a messy eater does not make you inherently gross or bad.

I am so happy you are consuming any food in the slightest and I'm so happy you are alive.

the angst of a panic attack or meltdown or seizure, the visual of scars and braces and crutches and nasal cannulas and hospital monitors beeping away, the idea of overcoming struggle and the limits of the human body. it's all beautiful whump for their gifs and fics and comics.

but the second they see someone needing an EMG or bronchoscopy, someone using a power chair and needing help getting into a building and advocating for their accessibility, someone using their inhaler, someone with stumps or disproportionate limbs, the mere idea of an ostomy bag or incontinence? you need to tag that, that's disgusting, that's triggering, nobody wants to see all of that.

if it isn't actively bad or harmful, no representation should be called "too simple" or "too surface level"

I have a whole argument for this about the barbie movie but today I wanna talk about a show called "the babysitters club" on Netflix

(obligatory disclaimer that I watched only two episodes of this show so if it's super problematic I'm sorry) (yes. I know it's based on a book, this is about the show)

this is a silly 8+ show that my 9 year old sister is watching and it manages to tackle so many complex topics in such an easy way. basic premise is these 13 year old girls have a babysitting agency.

in one episode, a girl babysits this transfem kid. the approach is super simple, with the kid saying stuff like "oh no, those are my old boy clothes, these are my girl clothes". they have to go to the doctor and everyone is calling the kid by her dead name and using he/him and this 13 year old snaps at like a group of doctors and they all listen to her. it's pure fantasy and any person versed in trans theory would point out a bunch of mistakes.

but after watching this episode, my little sister started switching to my name instead of my dead name and intercalating he/him pronouns when talking about me.

one of the 13 years old is a diabetic and sometimes her whole personality is taken over by that. but she has this episode where she pushes herself to her limit and passes out and talks about being in a coma for a while because of not recognizing the limits of her disability.

and this allowed my 9 year old sister to understand me better when I say "I really want to play with you but right now my body physically can't do that" (I'm disabled). she has even asked me why I'm pushing myself, why I'm not using my crutches when I complain about pain.

my mom is 50 years old and watching this show with my sister. she said the episode about the diabetic girl helped her understand me and my disability better. she grew up disabled as well, but she was taught to shut up and power through.

goodrx is the most well known one, but if i'm trying to find the cheapest price for a patient i compare it to scriptcycle, and use whichever is offering the best price. you just type in the medication (PLEASE make sure you're getting the right drug, dosage, and quantity) and your zip code and they will spit out some offers for you

some pharmacies may have their own discount card to compare to as well!

if you are getting a name brand medication, you can also look at the manufacturer's website to see if they offer any evouchers for you to use too

shoutout to disabled people who don’t seem to fit any one disorder and so they’re continually dismissed by doctors.

shoutout to disabled people who feel like they’re faking, who have some level of control over their symptoms, who don’t know if it’s real or not.

shoutout to disabled people who are in pain and don’t know why.

shoutout to disabled people who can’t tell if they’re in pain.
