I feel like Douglas Adams is to Terry Pratchett as Christopher Marlowe is to William Shakespeare. Like yeah, he's good and he definitely paved the way, but Pratchett is an all-timer.

Thing is, Adams (by his own admission, as I recall) pretty much ended up miscast by the success of the HITCHHIKER'S novelization and novels as a novelist, when he started out as (and IMHO his strengths were best suited to) a scriptwriter.
