It's wild blueberry season in Sweden and I've been picking and eating my fill everyday from the forest behind my house! The entire forest floor is covered in wild blueberry bushes and the tangy taste is so cosmic, I had to paint them✨ Photos of the berries I picked!

- A good mix of brand new names and recycled names in the recurring cast (and for the characters with recycled names not being carbon copies of their prev-gen counterparts)

- Have the generation stand on its own rather than be connected to a previous one (seems like this might be the case already, which means Hasbro have learned a lesson from G5's failure!)

- Either actually treating all species equally, or at least avoiding the positive 'pony supremacy' undertones FiM had

- Having body types be unisex a lá G2 & G5 (horses don't have any sexual dimophism, and it'll allow for more character options for somewhat less production cost)

- Having a little bit more diversity among the core cast, so that more kids (and older fans!) can see themselves represented in a pony (i.e. having a nonwhite-coded character right from the start, having more prominent disabled ponies, actually comitting to having a nonbinary pony)

- Majority of the toys having rooted hair, I'll even take poly as standard atp

- A decent variety of characters in the toyline as opposed to "mostly the core cast and the occasional other character" that's been happening since 2008-ish (at least the early G4 line tried)

Here are my thoughts. (That you totally didn't ask for but you're going to read them anyway~)

1) 9 minutes of run time is perfectly fine. I'm going to keep saying it until we're proven otherwise: Bluey did an amazing job with 7 minute episodes. If we get decent writers we'll be golden.

2) Yeah, they did change up the pony designs. They do this every generation and have been since G1 began in the late 80s. As a side note to that -- I HOPE they alter the personalities of the four main ponies a bit from their G4 counterparts. (Again, this is also a thing that has been done. Applejack? Funny G1 pony. Rarity and RD were opposites in G3. Pinkie's always been kinda Pinkie. But they were very much unlike how they ended up being in G4. And you're gonna have to be ok with that potentially happening. It ain't the end of the world.)

3) Change. Again. Change happens. This is good. This keeps things fresh. Now, am I a little disappointed in the initial preview cast of four ponies? Yeah. Hasbro wants money. G4 was huge for them. So of course they're going to go with some well known characters from their longest running generation. I'll live with it. I'm just excited for more pony. Hopefully we will see some ponies we haven't seen for a while as side characters. Some G3 faces could use some love. (And lets not forget about my Tales crew~) Also also: Not a G4 2.0. Another good thing. All prior generations to 4 and 5 have been relatively separate. New stories and new adventures is the way. <3 (I enjoyed G5. But tying it as messily as it was to G4 did it zero favors.)

4) The new designs, what we've seen, look pretty awesome. The touch of extra color in Fluttershy's mane is lovely. And overall the characters look a little more horse like. I dig it. Can't wait to see what other design surprises we're going to witness. I am soooo interested in how Equestria will be drawn this time around! (I'm probably one of the few, but like. Did you ever pay attention to the backgrounds and scenery in Pony Life? Ponyville was so vibrant and had more water running through it. It was super cute. Do that. Show me another version! G3 Ponyville was also vastly different than what it was in G4. I love seeing new creativity in these areas. Generations shouldn't be connected. This is what made MLP exciting over the years. New ponies. New friends. New fun.)

5) Applejack and Rarity aren't gone-gone. They'll appear at a later time in the show, apparently. Glad to see they are still going to be there. AJ has always been a favorite. Even when leaked Hasbro e-mails complained about her being the least marketable. (And even if I think having the whole Mane 6 from G4 in the show is too much G4 pandering, I'm still, again, just happy to have more pony content on the way! Still mad that G5 got canned without even a half-proper goodbye just when TYT was feeling like it was getting its legs under itself! But I digress…)

6) VAs change. VAs get other contracts or move on or whatever number of other reasons there could be to not be able to get the same ones you remember. This also isn't bad. Because again. The ponies, as they mostly have been over the years, also change. (Change is good. How many times have I said that now? I'll say it again~)

I'm looking forward to see what these new adventures will bring us! Cooked? Slop? Nah. We haven't been shown enough to make those kind of poor judgements yet.

I've been here since G1. And I'll be here for G6 and beyond.

And that zero experience turned out to be a problem, because we hadn't had much to do with birds and the thing about a bird's feathers, right, is that you've got a feather that sits in a little sheath thing that's rooted in the body. So what you want to do is pull the feather and sheath both out. But if you're a little kid who's never done this before, all too often, the feather comes out and leaves the sheath in the body. So we'd be doing our best but the ducks would come out maybe a quarter plucked properly and otherwise still full of these feather sheaths, and then it's a matter of going back and pulling all these little sheaths out.

I remember quite clearly, my mother and aunt helping us with this part, because it's fiddly and we were taking forever. They'd take the plucked ducks and re-pluck them properly. And I remember my mum making a remark to my aunt (not maliciously, she didn't know I could hear and was just making conversation), "You know, it would've been easier for us to just do it from the start and not have to deal with all these fiddly little bits." And she was absolutely right -- my brother and I were involved for our benefit in the same way you get a young kid to "help" wash the dishes, we were learning a life skill. But even though we'd done most of the work, we'd removed most of the unwanted mass from the duck's skin, we'd actually made things harder. We'd removed all the feathers and a quarter of the sheaths, but the sheaths are much easier to remove with the feathers attached, so working on a "mostly plucked" duck was a lot more work for the adults than just doing the whole duck from scratch would have been.

It's just the changing density of the air refracting light weirdly, so it looks like there's a reflection of the sky on the ground, which our brains often interpret as a pool of water.
