What does Simon mean to me? Simon Vs. came out in one of the most trying times for me. I was 17, a junior in high school, I'd just come out to my friends and I was dealing with so much mentally and emotionally. Simon was there when I needed him most. I related to him and his story, it was like gaining a new best friend and his story touched me. I related to Simon from our love of Oreos (I still want to visit Shoreo) to our love of theatre and practically everything else. Little did I know only a few months later, my life would mirror Simon's story in some ways. I'm glad that he was able to be there and help me through those moments. This book has basically opened the door for me in my online bookish community. This book has brought me amazing friends in the bookish community, it's helped me discover more LGBTQ+ books, it was my first signed ya book ever which then lead to more signed books, this book has been my absolute heart. Then came Molly, who just became a complete cinnamon role to me and for a moment made me interested in crafting, then came Leah who is one of the baddest bi girls I've ever read and honestly I would start a band with. These characters brighten my mood . I can go to these books for comfort, for joy, and for all the feels. They taught me it's ok to be myself and that even if I have to constantly re-discover myself and what I want, that's ok. This world has been with me for about 5 years now and I'm so happy I discovered these books and @beckyalbertalli who I love supporting and seeing and who really was just that sunshine for me in some of my darkest days and continues to be. I'm excited to read Love, Creekwood and visit these characters one more time.
