tragic news for my music taste: started relistening to badlands by halsey and i still like it.
remembering. in 7th grade when i used to walk around the field of my school and sing the songs while thinking about my crush (and changing the pronouns where necessary)
(bleeding from my wound) notice anythiung differebt about me ;)
i actually don't think it's a bad faith nonequivalent argument to point out that artists are perfectly capable of holding a moral stance about what they will produce and sell when it comes to AI, but not when it comes to gambling or sweatshop labor. i can't really imagine why being righteously opposed to AI is just natural regardless of whatever hypothetical financial benefits could be gained from it, but expecting a similar stance towards extractive business practices or exploitative labor conditions is some sort of unbelievably high bar to meet. Why? Can anyone explain to me why other than pure, naked self interest from artists that AI is a more legitimate moral concern than those other two things?
this disability pride i wanna keep in mind the disabled people who are in a difficult situation because of their disability. people who were made homeless because of their disability, people who are stuck in abusive homes and can't get out because of their disability. people whose disability was used against them to facilitate abuse, like taking away their autonomy - medical, legal, or otherwise - taking charge of their finances, taking advantage of their vulnerabilities. it's reasonable to think that a lot of disabled people, especially disabled people in difficult circumstances such of these, would struggle to connect with the idea of disability pride. but pride or otherwise, this month should also be disability solidarity month. this month and every month is for all disabled people in all sorts of circumstances

I was named after a living relative or family friend
I was named after a religious figure
I was named after a historical figure
I was named after a fictional character
I was named after a place

Other
Having been named after a character in The Great Gatsby by my English-major dad, I thought I would ask about this.
"i have to water the shitbird wait a minute"
"prosper stupid poultry"
[ID: Aerial photo of two adult wild hogs and 9 or 10 hoglets lying in a field. The babies are all lying in a pile between/on top of the two adults. End ID]
How is this thing even real
I don't think they should be allowed to do that

i could never get into waitress the musical bc the overall premise just feels like a version of womanhood and Life As A Woman that is completely foreign to me despite SO many people feeling seen and represented by it
also idk i just can't help but think so many stories esp in recent years are about women who do NOT want to raise a child but never for a second consider abortion. and if you bring up that like well if she was horrified about her accidental unwanted pregnancy then she should have had an abortion, people love to respond that supporting the right to choose means you have to support when women choose to have the baby
and it's just like. okay but this is a story. jenna is a fictional character who was written in this way for a reason and not a real woman who has the real agency to Actually Make A Choice (just like all the other characters in fictional stories in the last 20 years who end up unexpectedly pregnant and make it clear that this is undesirable for them). and people are like well you need the pregnancy for the story to happen and jenna is also pro-choice (and thus so is the musical) because she says so when she rejects the doctor presenting that option initially she's just making her choice to keep this baby that she initially very much does not want. and yeah i'm sure sara bareilles herself is in fact pro choice and i of all people understand the need for a potentially unrealistic plot contrivance to occur in order to allow the story to occur, but why is it always this fucking story
why is it always a woman who does NOT want a baby and is not in a place in her life to raise a child refusing an abortion for no stated reason except she doesn't want one even in the same breath as she reaffirms she also doesn't want a child, and then learning to love and want her child through the process of her pregnancy and in doing so love herself. (in the less uplifting version of this kind of story, the pregnancy just makes protagonist's life worse and miserable)
why do people keep writing stories about women who get pregnant accidentally and vehemently do not want a child and have the correct liberal value of being pro-choice and do explicitly have access to abortion care but absolutely do not even want to consider an abortion for themselves. i mean i know why but. feels fucking bad! feels like it's gonna get keep getting worse as abortion access becomes more and more restricted! well. whatever. can't do anything about that i guess. we live in hell
