I finished 18 pieces for artfight 2026 in gouache, fairly new to me. My goal was just to improve color but it ended up helping me learn about myself, giving me a direction out of creative burn out and resparking an excitement to create again.
This was an experiment in continuing to rein in my perfectionism while putting myself in a stressful situation (social exhausts me quickly)
I'm incredibly proud my skills in managing my energy has improved + am endlessly grateful for what this month has taught me. I forgot art is suppose to be fun.
I'm still finishing up commenting on all the attacks toward me (again, my energy is ridiculously low OTL) but I am touched anyone bothered to draw my dogs. I will definitely try to be back in 2027 and treat it as a creative vacation.
If there's one thing I can pass on from this: if you're ADHD and also a burnt out creative, check if you've had any small wins lately. Finish very small pieces with a set time limit then move on to the next. You can see how this slowly rebuilt confidence in me in the progression of art above!
hi! sorry to bother, but i wanted to ask after something--a long, LONG time ago (2012....), i believe you posted about some sort of comic or graphic novel, which was a commentary on the treatment of horses in world wars. it achieved this, i think, by swapping the roles of humans and horses accordingly. does this sound at all familiar to you, and if so, would you be able to point me in the direction of the title/author? i have scoured google for ages with no luck! thank you either way! :D
Yup, Bosom Enemies by Donna Barr! She's well known for her horse people. I've only read Bosom Enemies by her, but its a very bizarre, unique little series that I'm glad to have in my library. It covers two enemy WW2 soldiers- an American and German- who have to cope with their new reality together after they are abruptly turned into ''horses'' (human but with horse lower halves) and used as work animals by horse-headed humans.
I have physical copies thanks to my friend Ryan gifting them to me years ago, but after a quick google search, it seems its still easily available to purchase online

What's the first "big news story" you remember from when you were a kid?
It's something I love to ask mixed-aged groups sometimes because I think it's really interesting to see the responses. I've gotten answers from the Olympics of [whatever year] to Watergate to more recent stuff from my niblings.
My first news thing I remember is the OJ Simpson trial. I vaguely remember watching the news with my grandparents before that, but that's the first story I remember, in part because my second grade teacher had us go play so she could watch the verdict 😂

I've been really off all day since finding out Oliver Tree has died. I liked his music and his absurd presentation even more so. Weird as hell, unafraid to make himself into a clown, experimental and always fresh: unique creativity the world needs.
The music videos he directed are genuinely some of my favorites. They're all absolutely ridiculous yet imo have an aura of genuine love for creation and art which is what ultimately drew me in.
It's also been bizarre in a reassuring way to see so much open talk about collective disenfranchised grief and what his loss in particular means for art and culture. I'm glad he was here and inspired me.
Hard to pick a favorite, but this one stands strong for me
Tree's death is still on my mind and seems to have poked open a lot of different thoughts in me. There is often a social stigma around grief for someone you didn't know personally. But I've also been seeing mass shared unreality thanks to said grief. Tree was a genuinely good artist and human.
By unreality I mean the shock of the accident paired with Tree's record of eccentric jokes. Myself, obviously his fans, and even most of his personal friends reported experiencing disbelief when first finding out, then struggling to accept reality. It's incredibly heart breaking and sobering.
Ultimately: be curious and good to one another. Cherish art and life. And be kind to yourself and when seeing others in mourning someone you dont think they "have a place" to mourn- disenfranchised grief is normal and above all, a human expression of our interconnection.
Freak solidarity, man.

if i ever wrote a character that was not meant to be eggy but the girls started telling me she's 100% a trans girl i wouldn't be saying "art is subjective, though He wasn't written with that intention" or any of that bullshit, i'd be saying "woohoo", "fuck yes", "this is the best thing to ever happen to me" and things of similar nature
