Growing up in New York City, Lani saw countless sophisticated and luxurious lives play-out before her. Luckily, due to her mother’s newest husband, Lani got a small taste of the life she always wanted, though it only made her crave more. As she went through elementary and middle school, she always struggled with schoolwork, constantly getting distracted by anything and everything fashion-related. Backpacks filled to the brim with magazines instead of school papers, sketch pads instead of notepads, everything was focused on designers and their works.
Ever since she was a little girl, she was an outgoing, charismatic girl, unknowingly attracting people of all sorts. Granted, some people she encountered found her to be a bit naive, but that’s because she was. Lani always thinks the best of others until they give her reason not to, and even then it’s easy for her to give someone a second chance. Such an open mind and caring persona often got her into trouble, unable to say no to most people’s offers for a good time.
The summer Lani was to enter high school, her mother told her that she was leaving her husband, and the two of them would be moving to Shadow Ridge, Arizona, where her mother’s twin sister lived. Although disappointed about the divorce, she couldn’t help but be excited about moving in with her cousin, Lana; the two had always been close, despite the distance, and no distance was no longer a problem.
In her high school years, Lani embraced the new girl status and befriended anyone and everyone, though she tended to hang with the more “popular” people of her school, despite the fact she never really thought twice of the label. The only thing that really mattered to her was the constant stream of designs running through her head. Being an easily influenced teenager, Lani found herself joining her friends in all sorts of parties, only adding to the list of reasons why her grades slipped so much. The only class she really excelled in was her textiles class, while the rest of her class grades suffered. Lani is still determined to graduate with the rest of her peers, however; getting some extra help from her cousin at home.
Lani is outgoing and bubbly, if not a bit naïve at times. Though her sense of humor and positive outlook tends to make up for her lack of knowledge in certain subjects. Her energetic nature causes her to get into more trouble than she’d like, but she simply can’t help it— Lani loves a good adventure and fun stories to tell later on. Her mom and step-dad would really like to see her calm down and really focus on her studies, though both they and Lani understand the likelihood of that actually happening anytime soon.
Lana Campbell— Lani’s cousin and best friend. Despite their different personalities, the two have always been sisterly close, seeing as though their mothers are twins and each other’s best friend, as well.
Dominic Harper— Lani’s close friend. The two met when she was a freshman and he was a senior in Shadow Ridge High; they both were in the same group of friends and hit it off, much to everyone’s surprise. Even after he graduated, the two remained close as he attended Arizona State. Lani prides herself on being the only person allowed to call him silly nicknames and get away with it.
