this blog is mostly dedicated to my love for the ikemen series games (ikevill, ikepri, ikesen and ikevamp- especially the former two). i am an active player in the en versions of ikevil and ikepri but I also play their jp versions. i sometimes translate content from the two, with my tls mainly focusing on my favorites, especially nica from ikemen villains. i am not a native japanese speaker but i am preparing for jlpt so I do understand the language a bit. that said, my understanding of certain events/scenarios in the jp routes can turn out to be wrong, so please feel free to correct me.
i am a self-shipping riako with jude jazza and nica schwartz. i self insert with them, i.e. no ocs. my blog WILL have a lot of ramblings about them.
ikemen characters I like include
ikepri- silvio ricci, clavis lelouch, gilbert von obsidian
ikevil- jude jazza, nica schwartz, william rex
ikesen- mitsuhide akechi, kenshin uesugi, kicho
ikevamp- arthur conan doyle, vlad, francis drake
so you might find posts about them here and there.
apart from otome games, i also enjoy books, anime and manga.
now this might be irrelevant, but i still wanted to share. my username cosmowgyral (actual sp- cosmogyral), means whirling around the universe. this is because i am an astrophile and also hold a certificate degree in astronomy. that's right, i am in love with the moon and the stars and everything that belongs to the outer space!
and lastly, both my askbox and dms are open if you ever wanna talk. ⥠(hate asks will be deleted. not here to cause drama.)

Even after holing up in the basement from morning until night, I couldn't find the kind of information Nica was looking for.
The only information related to him was the record concerning the previous white swan and black swan curses.
The two individuals who bore the white swan and black swan curses were twins, just like Nica and his brother.
The black swan met a fateful end at a young age, while the white swan reportedly lived a long life before passing away from old age.
It seems the black swan's death was triggered by a quarrel with their lover. However, records indicate that the black swan had harbored a deep resentment toward the white swan.
They would frequently tell their lover that the white swan was the source of their misfortunes â a grievance they simply could not forgive.
(Ring cares deeply for Nica, so I guess itâll be okayâŚ.)
Still, the thought of how he might react if he learned that the misfortunes befalling them were caused by Nicaâs curse is too painful to even imagine.
(Iâm sure theyâll both be fine.)
I was trying to convince myself they wouldnât meet the same fate as the twins of the past.
But ultimately, thereâs no record of a cursed person dragging another into their own fate.
Despite not all records having been preserved, Nica was trying to do something unprecedented.
In other words, we have no way of knowing right now whether it will actually work out.
Kate: To think all I can do is hope...
(What was the point of shutting myself up in the basement and poring over those records?)
Dejected, I slumped onto my desk and accidentally pressed a typewriter key with my forehead. Quickly, I looked up.
Checking a hand mirror, I saw a round mark left on my forehead.
(...If I keep moping like this, my forehead is going to end up covered in key marks.)
Giving my cheeks a sharp slap, I spoke aloud to snap myself out of it.
Kate: For now, let's just be grateful for what I've managed to learn.
Even though I didn't get the specific information I wanted, I did manage to learn about the curse of black swan and white swan from the past.
(Perhaps this will lead to something else and help me get the information I need.)
I began typing to organize what I had learned so far.
Roger had given me permission to share the information about the curse of the white swan and black swan with Nica.
I didnât want to reveal the true nature of Nicaâs curse, but Roger seemed to more or less have guessed it anyway.
And he evidently decided that disclosing it wouldnât bring any harm to Crown.
However, I couldn't simply hand over the raw documents, so I ended up compiling the information myselfâŚ..
(Roger seemed to have thoughts on the matter tooâŚ.)
I donât know how much of the true situation Roger witnessed when he visited Haus as a child.
Yet, he clearly felt something regarding the twins who were born and raised there.
Reasoning that it would be acceptable to share at least this much, he helped me search for any other documents containing information on the white swan and the black swan.
[Transitions to Kateâs Room]
Kate: DoneâŚ.
I gathered the completed report pages together and punched holes along the left edge.
(Itâs a bit childlike, but I suppose this will do?)
I threaded a pale emerald-green ribbon through the holes and tied it into a neat bow, pulling it tight.
(Well, Nica probably wonât mind how I organize them.)
Deciding it looked fine, I rose from my seat.
Kate: Oh.
At that moment, I remembered something, opened my notebook, and picked up the four-leaf clover I had tucked between the last page.
(I should move this to a fresh sheet of paper.)
Wanting to preserve this symbol of good luck like a pressed flower, I placed the clover between two sheets of paper and set it beneath the novel lying on my desk.
Kate: Time to go see Nica.
I arrived at Nicaâs room with the report in hand, but unfortunately, he wasn't there.
(Doorâs locked tooâŚ.Given the nature of the contents, leaving it behind would be careless.)
(I'll just hold onto it until I can hand it to him directly.)
I turned on my heel and headed back the way I came.
As I walked, Nica was the only thing on my mind.
(Come to think of it, Nicaâs room doesnât get much sunlight.)
A room where one couldnât even sense the sunlight during the day.
(I wonder if his place in Germany is like this, too.)
He had said he disliked bright light and considering Haus, I felt I could finally understand why.
(It must have been pitch-black.)
In a place so dark that you couldn't even see the light outside, he longed for voyages and dreamt of the seas he had never seen.
I imagine that the traces of a childhood spent like that still linger within him.
Lost in thought about Nica as I walked, I found myself back in the garden before I knew it.
(It started out the way it did, yet I never imagined Iâd come to love him this much.)
Stopping, I looked up to see a vast, brilliant blue sky.
[Series of Flashbacks with Narrative]
Nica: HehâŚ.what a cute expression.
It started with him making me blush with sweet words.
Nica: You know, you shouldnât fall asleep so defensively around a guy, Spatzi.
Nica: Isnât that basically saying that you donât mind what happens to you?
He teased and laughed at me.
Nica: To think youâd believe such an obvious lie⌠you really are stupid.
Even after realizing Iâd been played...
Nica: âŚYou can laugh and call me a fool. And itâs okay to blame me too.
...I still couldn't stop loving him.
[Flashbacks End]
Despite being hurt and toyed with by Nica, I still loved him.
(But part of the reason my feelings wonât fade is because of Nicaâs attitude.)
No matter what he said, he never truly pushed me away.
If he didnât want me to like him, he would have told Crown about that incident without hesitation and put some distance between us.
But Nica didnât do that.
(Though I canât deny the theory that he still sees me as a toy he can useâŚ)
Kate: If Crown were to set me free.âŚwould that mean Iâd never see Nica again?
If I were allowed to, I would want to stay by Nicaâs side.
If I can help him find happiness by drawing Ring into his fate, then I donât mind if my wish doesnât come true.
It isn't because an ability has been used on me. Itâs something I truly desire from the bottom of my heart.
And yetâŚI donât think itâll come to pass.
Kate: HaaaâŚ..
Crouching down in front of the fountain I gaze at the sparkling surface of the water.
(Come to think of it, there was a similar passage in the sea voyage book I found in Nicaâs room.)
Recalling the description of the twins who were captivated by the glittering sea, I clutch my head again.
(Iâm thinking about Nica againâŚ!)
Just as I was thinking it felt as though I was under the effect of his ability when I really wasnât, I spotted a group of parliamentarians walking by whose meeting session mustâve just ended.
č°ĺĄ - Member of parliament is used here. They are not the same as privy counsellors. I used MP for short though this may vary on official EN translation.
Bespectacled MP: By the by, regarding that murder case in town the other dayâŚit seems everyone involved was German.
Recognizing the matter, I lent an ear to the conversation.
The parliamentarians continue their conversation, mildly exasperated.
Burly MP: Ah, are you talking about the speculation that a key figure from Germany is pulling the strings behind the scenes?
Kate: !
Lanky MP: Exactly. I mean, there are hardly any German immigrants here, are there?
Lanky MP: And yet, ever since those dignitaries arrived, it seems crimes committed by German immigrants have been on the rise in various areas.
Bespectacled MP: Given the increase in the immigrant population, it wouldn't be unreasonable to suspect some sort of connection.
(I had no idea things like that were happening...)
Itâs true. The recent incident involving Nica had been the work of Monica and the other Germans.
(The mastermind funding them may have a far greater objective than killing Nica.)
After recalling Nicaâs hypothesis and then hearing this conversation, I felt that the rise in crimes by immigrants seemed to lend it credence.
(What exactly are they planning to do in England?)
Realizing I won't find an answer just by thinking about it, I stand up as the members of parliament leave.
(They probably already know, but I should let them know anyway.)
(Iâll have Ring pass the message on to Nica!)
(Actually, wouldn't it be faster to just tell Nica directly?)
Worried that a clumsy explanation might accidentally reveal Nicaâs secrets to Ring, I decided to tell Nica myself.
No matter who I ultimately tell, Nica is the one who needs to be most on guard regarding this matter.
(Something similar to what happened to Monica and the others might happen again.)
Believing he ought to know since he had already been targeted once, I turned around.
(I'll go find Nica right away.)
Just as I was about to leave the spot...
I heard the sound of something breaking behind me and turned around.
Kate: Hm?
Suddenly, the fountain started malfunctioning and a massive amount of water came surging towards me.
Kate: Kyaah!??
[Enters into a Neu. POV]
While Kate was getting soaked to the bone, a Vogel meeting was taking place somewhere in LondonâŚ.
Darius: Well then, let's call it a day.
Nica immediately stood up, intending to return to the palace, but Darius stopped him.
Darius: Oh, Nica. Stay behind, thereâs something I need to discuss with you.
Nica: Finnneee.
He returned to his seat with a smile, making no effort to hide the fact that he found the whole thing a massive hassle.
Darius didn't reprimand him for it.
Ring then left the room, leaving the two alone.
Darius: Howâs your injury from the other day?
Nica: Completely healed, thankfully. Roger Barelâs treatment was spot-on.
Darius: It really is wonderful having a cursed doctor treat you. I wish he'd come work for us already.
Nica: Didn't you say you were going to have that Cursed person you scouted get a medical license? Whatever happened with that?
Darius: Hmm, it looks like that's going to take a while. That's why I want someone who's already fully qualified.
The two of them looked at each other and smiled.
Nica knew full well that this wasn't the reason Darius had asked him to stay.
Nica: So, whatâs this really about?
Darius continued speaking, his smile never wavering.
Darius: You're smart enough to know what I'm getting at, donât you?
Nica: Itâs about the spatzi thenâŚ..
Nica averted his gaze, wearing a guilty expression.
Darius: Donât worry. Iâm not angry.
Darius: But, as I'm sure you realize, family comes first.
Darius: If your infatuation with her were to disrupt my plans, though... I might have to reconsider things.
Nica: I wouldn't get in your way, Dari. Besides, I'm not exactly infatuated with her.
Darius: But you're only cooperating because siding with me means backing the winning horse... right?
Nica remained silent.
Darius: Iâm not criticizing you. In fact, that demeanor is what suits you best, Nica.
Darius: Family or not, if there's no mutual benefit, you'd switch sides in a heartbeat... It's better for you to be heartless.
Darius: Thatâs precisely what makes Ringâs loyalty shine so brightly, after all.
Darius opened a tin of snacks, picked out a few biscuits, and popped them into his mouth.
He wasn't being careful about how he ate, though. He let the crumbs fall to the floor without a second thought.
Darius: You know this already, I'm sure, but I absolutely adore the Cursed.
Darius: So, as long as you don't interfere with my plans, I don't mind if you want her for yourself.
Darius: I could even arrange for you to keep her as a pet. I'll have a custom cage prepared and everything.
Nica: Youâre joking, right?
Darius: Well, keeping a robin requires a birdcage and a contract, doesn't it?
Darius: And perhaps Iâll prepare a collar too, so everyone knows she belongs to you?
Nica retorted without changing his expression while Darius continued to eat his biscuits.
Nica: You donât need to go that far, Dari. Iâm not going anywhere.
Nica: Even if I were to get my hands on her, nothing would really change.
A sharp gaze fixed upon Nica.
Darius: It would change things for you, at least.
Darius: Sheâs become someone important to you, Nica.
Darius stopped eating and wiped his mouth with the back of his hand.
Darius: She might be even more troublesome than Ring. After all, Miss Fairytale Keeper is nothing more than a human.
Darius: A single little poke would probably kill her.
Nica: âŚ.Dari.
Darius smiled brightly in response to Nicaâs skeptical gaze.
Darius: Donât worry, I wonât do anything.
Darius: As long you work properlyâŚ.yes?
[Transitions to Palace Corridor - MCâs POV]
(I canât believe that happenedâŚ.)
Soaking wet, I was walking along the outer corridor of the palace.
The fountain suddenly started acting up, unleashing a torrent upon me with such force that it could only be described as a water torture.
I managed to protect the report, at least, but I was left completely drenched.
A gardener rushed over immediately, realized the fountain was malfunctioning, and shut off the water, but...
(Could this possibly be related to the white swan's curse...?)
That was the only explanation that made sense to me as I walked along, dripping wet.
Nica: HuhâŚ.?
I stopped at the end of the corridor, and our eyes met as he stood there looking at me with, surprised.

ââNica's POVââ
[BLACK]
The moment a rotten fruit had fell upon Kate's shoulder, I knew she had gotten too close.
[LONDON - BEACH SHORE - NIGHT]
(AhhâŚtell me this isn't real.)
As I stared out into the quiet sea, I thought back on the stroke of bad luck that had fell upon Kate some hours ago.
When I had laid my eyes on her and that unexpected bad luckâ
I had realized my true feelings, to which I held my head.
(See, this is why I didn't want add anything more dear to meâŚ)
"Bad luck will follow those loved by the one who bears the White Swan's Curse."
(Ring had always been hit by bad luckâ as he's the one I'm most close to.)
Before I knew the nature of my Curse, I had thought Ring was simply not lucky,
but I had since learned that in reality, I was stealing his luck away from him,
and in part to hide my Curse, I had gradually put more distance between us.
(Still, even if she's normally not the most lucky, it could still get pretty bad for her.)
Unlike Ring, Kate was a normal girl.
Even if she wasn't Cursed, it wasn't like she had received any special training.
She was a fragile girl who may as well have gotten injured at the slightest of shocks.
(That said, she's got a strong will on her.)
But that was more so a testament to her character than it was her physical strength.
Even if Ring could laugh his bad luck off, for Kate it probably wouldn't have been that casual.
(Like what would you have done if you had gotten hurt back there?)
There was a chance she would end up caught in a messy situation, or end up receiving serious traumaâŚthings one could hardly laugh at could happen constantly, and yetâ
Nica: âŚThere's no way the likes of me can make you happy.
No matter how much affection she hit me with, I was nothing but a Cursed one who would only give Kate bad luck;
Cursed by the White Swan with the sin of narcissism, fated to be the only one who would find happinessâŚ
The lowest of the low.
Nica:Â How did things turn out like this?
Since when did Kate get so close to me?
Was it since the day we first met? During the time I had been playing her? Or around the time she learned of my true nature and had been made a toy?
They all felt like the right answers; I couldn't believe myself.
(I wouldn't have even reached out to her if I didn't have some interest.)
She was a civilian in Crown, someone not in any document on them, with a special role called fairytale keeper.
I had gotten close to her to use her for information,
but now that I thought back on it, it would be more accurate to say I had done so for my own intelligence work than for fishing out Crown's secrets.
(She's a civilian who won't be in Crown for more than a month. There's no way she could tell even if she wanted.)
But I had tried to get information through Kate.
And since I had taken an interest in that pure, innocent robin in the den of evil,
I had ended up wringing my own neck instead.
Nica: âŚYou're not too much better, though, Spatzi, are you?
(You should've snitched on me to Crown as soon as you could after telling me I'm the worst.)
If you had done that, you wouldn't have been made a plaything; you could just be a poor girl who got played by a frivolous guyâŚ
(Well, I know you don't have the heart for that, so here we are.)
The documents Kate had snatched were nothing major,
but it was hard to believe that those documents were the only ones in the office.
(Chances are high that shrewd Queen's Aide left only those there on purpose.)
He had probably saw our movements and left only things that would be no problem if we knew.
That was more than likely the case.
It looked like she had always been scared of getting killed by Crown,
but looking from the side, it seemed she was quite well-liked, so I figured that wouldn't happen.
(At worst she'd either be bound to another month's work as fairytale keeper, or she'd be forbidden from making contact with us.)
Though I had purposely used words to rile up her anxiety, I also knew it wasn't really such a big deal.
(But then I just had to go and make her my playthingâŚ)
Letting out a deep sigh, I crossed my arms while thinking of what to do.
I felt responsible for her.
Her, who struck me with her blindingly honest feelings,
who I had grown fond of, who at some point I had let inâŚI had brought this on myself.
(To think I'm a frivolous man who plays with love to no end, huh.)
Nica:Â Go fall in love with some other guy, you stupid robin.
I drew a line in the sand.
It was obvious a normal, good man was better for someone honest like her, who was loved by many.
Nica:Â So why did you fall for the likes of me of all people?
I talked to myself as I let out a dry laugh.
[BLACK]
(âŚI have to do something.)
So that no more bad luck befalls on her, so that she doesn't exert herself any more for my sakeâ
I couldn't let her go through the same things [1] as Ring had.
[LONDON - VOGEL MEETING ROOM]
That was why Dari's words were all the more convenient to me.
Nica:Â As for the three who tried to kill me, Mark Hoffman was their guardian.
Darius:Â One of the researchers at Haus, it seems. I'd guess he took some subjects with him after it closed down and continued his experiments.
Darius:Â And the one who dished out those orders was exactly as you guessed, Nicaâ Johannes Wolfgang.
Dari gave a bright smile, spreading out a map and pointing at Europe.
Darius:Â It seems Wolfgang is somewhere in Europe. His family back in Germany is searching for him now.
Darius:Â But said search's slow at best. They haven't reached any leads.
Darius: I figured you'd be able to pin him down faster, butâŚwell, I guess it can't be helped.
Dari made a sad look, but that was when a certain idea occurred to me.
(This might be my chance.)
I could get away from this countryâ and disappear from the Spatzi with this.
(The next time she gets hit with a stroke of bad luckâŚI'll return to Germany and join the search for Wolfgang.)
I couldn't swear any eternal love or a happy future to her.
But, I couldn't help but want her, the one and only person in my life who had fallen in love with me for who I really was, to find happiness.
[1] Nica uses the word [ăăŽäşăŽč] (âno ni no mai), which means "a repeat of something" but with the added connotation that what that "something" is was a mistake or something he holds more regretful feelings towardâŚin this case, he seems to be implying those feelings toward Ring.

Itâs something I heard someone once say.
That infatuation seeks the happiness of oneâs self, while genuine love seeks the happiness of the other person.
When the two come together, it creates a give-and-take dynamic, and a relationship begins in which both partners can find happiness. Not just the one.
(So where does that leave meâŚ.?)
If I could say that it is 100% love, then maybe I would be considered a truly virtuous person.
But unfortunately, once youâve fallen for someone, itâs impossible to completely shake off those selfish desires.
Because even the slightest word or action makes me hope, makes my feelings grow, and leads me to imagine a happy future together.
So Iâm pretty sure the feelings I have for Nica right now contain a little bit of infatuation, and a vast amount of love.
[Kateâs Bedroom]
(Okay.)
Standing in front of the full-length mirror, I inspected my appearance and pulled my white cloth gloves snugly up my hands.
(You better brace yourself, Nica Schwartz!)
After gloving my hands to prevent Nica from using his powers on me if I ran into him, I confidently left my room.
[Transitions to Rogerâs Lab]
Roger: This and thisâŚ..Oh, and this one too.
Surprised by the pile of documents being plopped down on the desk one after another, I tied my hair up.
Roger: Youâre really fired up about this, huh?
Kate: Sure am, thanks for helping me out.
I picked up a document resting on top and turned a page.
The entire stack was a compilation of information related to curses.
[Flashback]
I want Nica to genuinely smile.
After leaving his room yesterday, I went straight to see Roger.
Kate: Iâd like to see information regarding curses.
Roger seemed to grasp my intentions, so he replied with a smile.
Roger: First, you need to have a proper rest.
[Flash back Ends]
Doing exactly as he said, I rested well and then came here first thing this morning.
(Right, letâs get started!)
Roger brought over a chair, sat across from me, picked up some of the material and started flipping through the pages.
Kate: Are you doing research too, Roger?
Roger: Yeah. Iâve read everything here, but I thought I mind find something new if I reviewed it again.
Following suit, I carefully examined each of the pages.
The Interrelationship Between Curses, Impulses Driven by Sin, Fated EndsâŚâŚ
With every turn of the page, the lives of the cursed and their tragic ends unfolded before me.
(Killing a loved one and then taking oneâs life, being killed under false accusation, being deified and then sacrificedâŚ.)
My heart ached at the accounts of such tragic endings, and I paused.
Kate: âŚWhy do curses exist?
Thanks to Rogerâs keen sense of hearing, my small murmur wasnât didnât go unnoticedâŚ..
Roger: Dunno. I canât say what the causality is behind it, but one thing is certain. Curses do exist in this world.
Roger: It could be the word âcurseâ came about because of the curses in fairy tales.
Roger: And thereâs a good chance that some of the people killed during the witch hunts in the Middle Ages were actually cursed.
Roger tapped his finger against a paper I was looking at.
There, it detailed a cursed fate: To lose oneâs life by fire.
Kate: The curse doesn't have a definitive name, but since it frequently afflicted women, it's highly likely it was referred to as the Witches CurseâŚ.
Roger: Fairy tales are born from curses, right? Thatâs why many of them donât have specific names.
Roger: Itâs not uncommon to find descriptions that clearly stem from the same idea, even if the names differ from one record to the next.
Roger pulled a stack of papers from the pile and spread them out on the desk.
They all contained similar information.
Roger: Thereâs heaps of accounts like this about the cursed.
(I see... this is going to be a lot of work.)
Just as I was thinking about how exhausted Iâd be by the time I finished analyzing everything, Rogerâs eyebrows twitched.
Roger: Here comes troubleâŚâŚ
Kate: Huh
The next moment, the door to the basement blew wide open.
Victor: TADAAAA!! The ULTIMATE duo, William and Victor, have come to help!
William: If itâs not too much trouble, could you spare us a moment?
Though startled by their sudden arrival, Roger seemed to have sensed them coming and sighed.
Roger: So what brings the ultimate duo here?
Victor: We thought you might be interested in these records about the cursed.
With a grin of satisfaction, Victor placed a thick stack of parchment and several old scrolls onto the table.
Rogerâs eyes widened.
Roger: These areâŚ.
Victor: The other day, while cleaning out the palace archives, I actually stumbled upon a hidden safe.
Victor: And thatâs when I found these cursed documents written centuries ago!!
Kate: What?!
Roger: Oy, oy, are you serious?
The moment Roger unfolded the scroll, a sharp, musty smell hit my nose.
William: I never imagined there would be a records related to the cursed hidden in the palace.
Victor: Yes, I even leapt for joy.
Victor: I thought of asking for Williamâs assistance with deciphering it.
Victor: But it seems you both are already up to something interesting!
Victor: So I figured it would be more fun if we all worked on deciphering it together... and I went ahead and brought it along! â
William: So thatâs what brings us here. Do you mind if we join you?
Kate: Of course not! Uh, RogerâŚ.?
Roger: To think there was someone afflicted with the same curse back then just like todayâŚâŚ
Roger could have been referring to his own curse, but I kept it generic because I couldn't tell 100%
Victor: Seems like he canât hear us anymore.
The two of them shrugged as they watched Roger muttering to himself while staring intently at the documents.
With Victor and William taking their seats, the four of us were now gathered around the table.
Victor: All right, letâs get started!
The time I had set aside to deepen my understanding of curses turned into time spent deciphering the new documents.
(HmmâŚ)
About three hours had passed since I began the unraveling work.
(Thereâs a lot of overlap between these and what Roger gave me.)
Itâs the same kind of information over and over. I canât find anything new.
Victor: Did you find anything new?
Roger: There are a few things that caught my eye, but contentâs mostly similar to what I already have. What about you, Kate?
Kate: Nothing in particular for me eitherâŚ.
William stopped flipping through pages.
William: I suppose thatâs because there were fewer people who understood the cursed back then as there are now.
William: Humans are creatures that reject beings different from themselves. I suppose there were few people who would have stood up for them.
William tapped the parchment with his finger. It depicted a man impaled by multiple swords.
(âThis man was feared for his supernatural powers. He was framed and executedâŚ.â)
It was a horrific picture, with the people gleefully looking around the lifeless man.
Every record detailing the fates of those who appeared to be cursed were tragic.
Just as sorrow started to sink in I noticed a passage about a pair of cursed twins.
âDepending on the region, twins might be reviled as abominations or revered as divine figures.
However, it is highly likely that most of the twins referred to as demons possessed supernatural powers.
Yet, they never shared the exact same ability; no matter how alike they were, distinct powers would manifest in each.
Their ends too shall come in different ways.â
My heart aches when I think of Nica.
(Is there no precedent for bringing another cursed person into one's own fate?)
But no matter how much I scoured the documents, I couldn't find the information I was looking for anywhere.
(âNo one can escape their fateâŚâ)
A breath escaped me as I felt the weight of that written sentence bear down on me.
Then, William looked up from a record and spoke up as if something occurred to him.
William: Come to think of it, the final day of your being fairytale keeper is almost here.
His words make me start.
(Thatâs right, itâs almost a monthâŚ)
I have only a few days left as a fairytale keeper. Once thatâs over, Iâm set to return to my old life.
(I donât know if can return thoughâŚ.)
[Flashback Narrative]
After Nica used his ability on me, I stole confidential information from Victorâs office.
Even though they were reports written by myself, and even though Nica was already aware of its contentsâŚ..
Stealing them is unforgivable.
[Flashback Narrative Ends]
Roger: Ya know, you might be better off not knowing too much.
Kate: What?
Roger keeps his eyes pasted on the parchment while speaking.
Roger: You might find yourself unable to go back.
I offer a wry smile, acknowledging the truth of his words.
Kate: Either way, I canât exactly go home with a clear conscience if things stayed the way they areâŚ..
(Not just because heâs got dirt on me, but I canât leave Nica behind and go back to my old life like this.)
(Now that I know the truth, I want to helpâŚbecause Iâve fallen for Nica.)
Roger said nothing more, and so I turned my attention back to the records.
Believing that somewhere out there, a tiny shred of hope lies waiting to make Nicaâs wish come true.
[Transitions to the Forest on Castle Grounds]
(There was nothing written about it at allâŚ.)
Victor returned to work, William went on a mission, and Roger is still glued to his documents.
As for me, I was beginning to feel despondent after page upon page yielded no promising information. So I decided to step out for some fresh air and took a walk through the forest connecting Crown Castle to the palace.
As I strolled along, breathing the fresh air deeply in and out, I spotted Nica in the distance.
Kate: OhâŚ!
I took a step forward, intending to call out to him, but stopped short as I remembered what had happened the other day.
(I want to speak to Nica, but he may not want to speak to meâŚ.)
Just as I was hesitating, something suddenly landed on my shoulder.
Kate: Eek!!
Nica: Spatzi?
Some kind of wet splat hit my shoulder, and I let out scream.
Noticing me, Nica came rushing over in a panic.
Nica: What happened, are you okay?
I tentatively touched my left shoulder and found a squashed piece of fruit...
Kate: Ugh, and it was a brand new blouse tooâŚ.
Nica: Geez, that's the worst. I'd hate it if my new clothes got stained like that.
Nica: And that purple color doesnât look like itâll come out will it? My condolences spatzi, I really do feel for you.
Nica wiped the stain with a handkerchief, but it didnât come completely off.
Nica: You should probably go change soon.
His tone was a bit blunt, but his hands were gentle as he tried to dab away the stain.
Nica: Itâs a shame about your new clothes.
Kate: âŚ.Actually, I think itâs rather lucky.
Noticing the handkerchief staining purple, I gently moved his hand away from my shoulder.
His brows furrowed with puzzlement as I lifted my arms.
Kate: I bought my usual size, but it's so tight around the shoulders that I can't lift them any higher.
Kate: I wore it anyway because it seemed like such a waste... but maybe this is a sign from above telling me never to wear it again!?
As I shifted the angle to show him how my arms wouldn't go up, Nica burst out laughing.
Nica: Hahaha! It really is tight. Thatâs definitely the size for a child.
With his brows lifted and a laugh that made him look like a little boy, he held a genuine, unfeigned expression.
Captivated by that smile, my heart began to pound loudly.
(Oh, I really do love youâŚ..)
No matter how much he teases me or toys with me, whenever I sense his undeniable kindness and see his genuine smile, Iâm convinced that I love Nica.
Nica: Here, Iâll give this to poor little you.
Kate: Oh, a four-leaf clover! Where did you find it?
Nica: It was growing over there.
Nica placed the clover into my hand and then gave a quick smile.
Nica: Thatâs the nature of my curse, you see.
A while back, I might have told myself I was only imagining the look of loneliness on his face.
But now that I know his past and understand the meaning behind that expression, I gently cup the clover in my hands.
Even though good fortune should be resting right there in my palm, I felt as though it were slipping away through the gaps between my fingers.
Kate: âŚI truly do love you, Nica.
His eyebrows twitched.
Kate: But itâs not that I want to date you or anything like that... I just want to make sure you don't have to shoulder everything alone.
Kate: I want to make sure you donât have to keep struggling on your own.
Kate: So Iâll just keep doing my best on my own, in the hope that it will lead to a future where you can smile, even just a little.
(Deep down, of course, I wish youâd love me back and that we could end up together...)
But more than that, I want him to walk toward a future where he doesn't have to keep fighting all alone.
Donât keep toying with things, hiding, and dancing on and on⌠Please donât do anything that would ruin your life just to drag your brother into your fate.
(Because if you do that, youâll never find happiness no matter how much time passes, Nica.)
Nica: Youâre going to spend all your time on something thatâs never going to happen, even though Iâll never look your way?
It would be easy to get angry at that condescending tone.
But my resolve remains unshaken.
Kate: I said it was for your sake, but the main reason is that I want to do it.
Kate: Please donât try to stop me. And even if you do, Iâll just keep meddling anyway.
Nica looked annoyed and tried to scoop up my right hand and drop a kiss on it, but my hand was completely covered by the glove.
Kate: Too bad. Iâve already taken cautionary measures.
I deliberately curled the corners of my lips as Nica frowned.
Nica: What a painâŚ..
As he let go and walked away, I turned on my heel in high spirits, feeling a sense of triumph.
On the way, a maid handed me a fresh change of clothes. I changed and returned to the basement.
I took my seat and began reading through the materials Roger had given me once more.
There, I found a brief record concerning the person known as the one cursed by the white swan.
âPeople whom a white swan has taken a liking to often find themselves plagued by bad luck.
Having bird droppings land on one's shoulder, frequently getting splashed with water, or drawing nothing but losing lots â such piddly misfortunes are proof of being loved by a white swan.â
I recalled what had happened just moments ago.
The instant I spotted Nica, I had the bad luck of a rotten fruit falling onto my new blouse.
(That was the first time in my life something like that had ever happened...)
If this account was true, and I hope it is.
Then that bad luck would mean -
Itâs the ultimate proof that I hold a place in Nicaâs heart.

Roger: Â Because of our current situation, weâre gonna have to put our research on hold. Letâs go, Kate.
Kate: OkayâŚ!
Mirror Roger: Donât leave me out. Iâm coming too.
Roger: Suit yourself.
â
After leaving the basement, I thought we would head to his room or study to deal with this situation, butâ
Roger headed outside, as if on a mission.
Kate: Where are we going?
Roger: Weâre gonna meet the mirrorâs former owner. We can probably get some new info about it.
Kate: Thereâs some kind of story behind it, isnât there? Perhaps the previous owner knows something.
Anyway, when did you even find out about the previous owner?
Roger: I asked Victor about it since I wanted to study the mirror anyway.
Rogerâs and my hand naturally found each other as we talked.
Well the hand felt like Rogerâs, but it came from the other side.
Mirror Roger: Donât give me that look when weâre just holding hands.
Kate: Roger, the problem isâŚis that I already have a lover.
Roger: It gets confusing when you call us both âRogerâ. How about we just call this guy âfakeâ.
Mirror Roger: Weâve already concluded that weâre exactly the same, so itâs pretty mean to call me a fake.
Iâm a Roger that exists to love Kate.
So doesnât that make me a superior version for Kate?
Roger: Just to be sure, what exactly do you plan to do as someone who loves Kate?
Mirror Roger: Iâd give up all my research, drinking, and playtime with Ale to love Kate.
âTo love Kate in every way possibleââThatâs the purpose of my existence.
Roger: DamnâŚSo youâre nothing but desire below the waist, huh?
Mirror Roger: Just desire below the waist? Nah, Iâd give everything up to love Kate.
I was born the perfect being to love Kate; Iâve eliminated all the extra factors.
Roger: Perfect or not aside, I wouldnât be me if I didnât have a passion for research.
(Meaning, even if they do look alike, heâs nothing like Roger at allâŚright?)
Mirror Roger: Iâm you. If youâre so in denial, then we can have the lilâ lady check.
Kate: HuhâŚ
Mirror Roger suddenly pulled me into a hugâ
Mirror Roger: Come on. Go ahead and touch me to see for yourself. You know my body pretty well, donât you, lilâ lady?
Wanna check if anythingâs reversedâŚ?
The moment he reached out to me, Roger slapped his hand away.
Roger: Donât touch her. Let her go.
Mirror Roger: Just a little bit wouldnât hurt.
Roger: Nope.
(As expected, they donât get along at allâŚ)
Their relationship was obviously complicated, but I also felt uneasy about myself.
(I want to reject Mirror Roger)
(But itâs frustrating how I canât avoid him because they look so alikeâŚ)
Their identical faces make me hesitate for a momentâŚbut not just that.
(His way of speaking and egoism are just like Rogerâs)
(My heart subconsciously skips a beatâŚ)
Kate: *sigh*
When I let out a sighâ
Roger & Mirror Roger: Kate!
Kate: Eek!
Right when the two Rogers yanked me toward them, roof tiles fell from above and shattered on the ground.
After thanking them, Mirror Roger gave pleasant smile.Â
The Roger from the mirror always tried to hold my hand or hit on me, butâŚ
It was at the moment it dawned on me, his true nature was the same as Rogerâs.
Kate: Once again, thank you for saving me, Roger.Â
Mirror Roger: Which one are you thanking?
Roger: Both, I think.
It was like Rogerâs smile toward his other self was much softer than a moment ago.
--
We then arrived at an inn where an acquaintance of Victor was at.
Inn owner: The mirror belonged to a deceased relative, and as you probably know, has a story behind it.
When rumors about this inn being haunted started spreading, business took a hit and so we decided to sell itâŚ
Iâm really grateful that Victor bought it at a high price.
Roger: Do you know how the rumors about its reputation started?
Inn owner: Thereâs really nothing much to itâŚI hear rumors from guests about a ghost that looks like them, or a doppelganger.
I didnât hear anything from my deceased relative either besides what Iâve already told Victor.
--
Roger: That was a bust.
Mirror Roger: Hey, do you really wanna get rid of me that badly?
Itâs simple, actually. Once Iâve slept with Kate, Iâll be satisfied and disappear.
Roger: Howâs that simple? You think Iâm gonna let you sleep with my woman that easily?
If you insist, youâre gonna have to knock me out first.
Mirror Roger: You wanna continue our match from earlier? Iâm down.
Roger: HaâŚI've wanted nothing else. But even if you win, itâs really up to Kate in the end.
Mirror Roger: Do you plan on losing? Even though youâre me, youâre being pretty timid.
(Are Roger and his mirror self competing over me?!)
Even though the two Rogers are fighting, their directness, stubborn willpower, and strong arms are all the same.Â
(When they protected me earlier, they moved pretty much at the same time)
Iâm not sure how the competition will turn out. But if they, being the same, pressured me, I wouldnât be able to refuse.

If life were a fairytale, then after the happy ending would beâŚ
âAnd they lived happily ever afterâ.
But everyone knows such things only exist in fiction.Â
Good and evil. Life and death. Love and hatred. Happiness and sorrow âÂ
This balance lasts only for a fletting moment before it all falls apart, inevitably.Â
âŚÂ
ă CROWN CASTLE DINING HALL ăÂ
This happened one fine day, some time after I stepped into the darkness and became a Fairytale Keeper.Â
Having completed a lengthty report, I was enjoying my first day off in a while.Â
That morning, a large feast was being hosted at Crownâs castle for both Crown and Vogel.Â
The dining table was lined with luxurious dishes â Victorâs homemade beef wellington, savoury pies, finger sandwiches, seasonal fruit trifles⌠I thought I was drooling.Â
Kate: The food today looks splendidâŚ!Â
Victor:Â I wanted to reward everyone for working so hard day and night, and so I might've gotten a little too carried away.Â
Liam:Â Weâve got all sorts of alcohol too. Anything for you, Kate?
Kate:Â Iâll start with champagne.Â
Liam:Â Okie dokieď˝ have a seat, Iâll go bring you some.Â
Roger:Â Ah. As your doctor, Iâm responsible to tell you that getting wasted in the middle of the day is terrible for your health.Â
Roger:Â Anyway. Grab me a beer, Al.Â
Alfons:Â You are the embodiment of contradiction. Please, get it yourself.Â
Elbert:Â Youâre the closest to it, why don't you just do it?Â
Alfons:Â Elbert, have you forgotten that the moment you indulge this four-eyed egoist even just one time, he gets full of himself and dumps another 100 tasks on you?Â
Victor: Now, now, boys. Letâs all get along and enjoy the foodâ ⌠Oh?
Victor:Â Whoa there, Harrison. Where are you going? Iâm not letting you leave until youâve eaten!Â
Harrison: Tch⌠youâre too strong.Â
Kate:Â Fufu. Youâre choking him, Victor.Â
Harrison: Donât just laugh at me. Help me out a little. Sigh⌠geezâŚÂ
Liam:Â But the food smells so good, Harry!Â
???:Â Seriously though, I canât imagine thereâs anyone who wouldn't get hungry smelling food this goodď˝
Liam:Â Right? Right!? Youâre so mean for tempting us with this aroma first thing in the morning, Victorď˝!Â
Liam:Â Wait, what?
???:Â Hm?
(W-Who is THIS!?)Â
A mystery man with a dubious smile had inserted himself into the conversation as though heâd been there the entire time.Â
Standing there dressed in a flashy chinoiserie coat, he didnât so much as flinch under everyoneâs stares. Instead, he grinned and cocked his head to the side.Â
The ornaments and accessories he wore jingled every time he moved.Â
Victor:Â Oh, Euren. Itâs been a while.Â
Euren:Â Hi, hiď˝! I thought everyone must be starting to miss me, so I came back to Englandď˝!Â
Alfons:Â Here on another unannounced visit.
Liam:Â Kind of rare to see you come to the castle in the morning. Youâre usually only out on the streets at night, doing shady stuff.Â
(Looks like everyone knows him⌠thatâs surprising.)Â
William:Â Kate, heâs a broker who does business across several countries.Â
Euren:Â The nameâs Eurenď˝ Nice to meet you! If a client wants it, I can arrange just about anything in the world!Â
Euren: From beautiful carpets from foreign countries⌠to people and information :)Â
William:Â Victor and I have been making deals with him for some time. Heâs one of our informants.Â
Kate: Does that mean he knows about Crown
William:Â He knows. Heâs also aware of the existence of the Cursed.Â
William:Â Apparently, heâs also accompanied Liam and Alfons on countless of their dangerous nighttime adventures.Â
William: Also,âÂ
Ellis:Â Oh, we have an unusual guest.Â
Jude: âŚâŚâŚ Ugh.Â
Euren:Â Ahh!Â
William:Â It seems that he and Jude attended the same public school.Â
Euren:Â If it isnât my favourite senior Judeď˝ heeeyyy how have you beenď˝?Â
Jude:Â Must be hearinâ things. Gotta get myself to the hospital. Bye.Â
Euren: Awwď˝ you're still as cold as ever ⥠Thatâs why youâre my fav senior âĄÂ
Jude:Â Ya gross as hell. Mind bitinâ yer tongue and dyinâ?Â
Kate: ⌠Their relationship sure is interesting.Â
Alfons:Â The colder you are to Euren, the more excited he becomes.Â
Liam: If Jude were nice to him, he'd probably cling to him a lot lessâŚ
Euren:Â Donât glare so hard at me. Are you still upset Iâm 0.3 inches taller than youď˝?Â
Euren:Â Your attitude makes up for your lack of height, so no problem at all!Â
Jude:Â Ya want me to lop off three inches from yer ankles?Â
Alfons: That is not happening.Â
Victor:Â What brings you here today, Euren?Â
Euren:Â I came to meet the rumoured âFairytale Keeperâ of course.Â
Euren: Youâre the girl everyoneâs talking about, right? From the moment I saw you, Iâve been thinkingâŚ
Euren: Hmm⌠yup! Youâre totally my type! It must be fate that brought us together!Â
Kate:Â Huh?Â
Euren:Â Do you have a boyfriend? Whatâs your type? How about me? Iâm rich and Iâll treat my girlfriend super well.
Kate: UHHâŚ!?Â
Roger:Â Thatâs enough.Â
Roger:Â Give the little lady a break already. Her stomachâs been growling this whole time.Â
Euren: Oh, really? Sorry, sorry! I didn't notice at allď˝Â
Thankful to Roger for rescuing me, I quickly distanced myself from Euren.Â
As I watched him immediately waddle off to bother another member of Crown, Elbert sat down next to me with a concerned look.Â
Elbert: ⌠Are you alright?Â
Kate:Â Yes. I was simply a little overwhelmed. Do you know him too, Lord Elbert?Â
Elbert:Â Yeah. I often run into him at auctions for foreign antiques and artworks.Â
Alfons:Â Though he sees Lord Elbie as a rival because they always end up wanting the same things.Â
Nica:Â Guten Tag, Crown and Spatziâ Oh?
Ring: ⌠That information broker guy?Â
Nica blinked in surprise while Ring appeared wary.Â
Darius: ⌠What is a member of Libra doing here?Â
Darius frowned, displeasure written all over his face.Â
(âLibraââŚ?)Â
Victor:Â My apologies. We weren't expecting him.Â
Euren:Â Iâm terribly sorry. I promise I won't get in anyoneâs way! Just think of me as a speck of dust in a corner!Â
Darius:Â Dust doesnât talk.Â
Euren:Â Youâre as sharp as ever for noticing that, Directorď˝
Nica:Â That level of flattery is almost admirable.Â
Kate:Â You guys know him too?
Ring:Â Yeah. Nica sometimes trades information with him.Â
(Eurenâs really popular, huh.)Â
Victor:Â Alright, alright. Since we have an unexpected guest with us, letâs get the party started!Â
Victorâs words turned the atmosphere lively once again.Â
While the feast was in full swingâ
Euren:Â Heeeyy, Kate. Let's go on a date sometimeď˝ Pretty please? Iâm the super loyal and devoted type!
Jude:Â Ya mean the clingy pest type.Â
Just as Euren started hitting on me again after going around pestering everyone in turn, another unexpected guest arrivedâÂ
Euren: No, really, are you free this weekeâÂ
???:Â Youâre late.
Euren:Â OW!!?Â
Kate:Â Eek!?Â
A fist appeared behind Euren and punched him square in the head.Â
Euren:Â OWIEEď˝! I think thereâs a dent in my skull now! Is there!?Â
???:Â Donât care. Drop dead.Â
A man stepped out from behind him, eyes sharp and practically screaming that he was no saint. The atmosphere in the room instantly grew tense.Â
(Do he and Euren know each other? That was way too violent thoughâŚ)Â
???: ⌠What're you looking at?
While I was thinking of all the possibilities in my head, the man turned to glare at me like a predator eyeing its prey.Â
(It'd be weirder if I wasnât looking at you in this situationâŚ!)Â
But it definitely wasnât the time for such comments.Â
His eyes made him look like he could kill someone right this second if he wanted to.Â
He was a burly, intimidating man with a gun hanging from his waist and even beneath his thick coat, I could sense he had more weapons.
My experience as a Fairytale Keeper told me one thing: âkeep your mouth shutâ.Â
Victor:Â Zane! What brings you here, of all places?Â
Kate:Â Eh!? You know him too!?Â
Alfons:Â Ah, could he be the one you mentioned before?Â
Elbert: The one Victor invited to join Crown, only to be refused on the spotâŚ?Â
(! Does that mean heâs a Cursed too?)Â
Roger:Â Heâd make a damn good hitman. Iâve seen him at underground boxing tournaments.
Liam:Â Underground boxing tournaments? Is that some illegal gambling thing?
Ring: You can tell just by looking at him that heâs no regular person. This guy⌠heâs strong.Â
Victor:Â Could it be that youâve finally decided to join Crown?Â
Zane: âŚâŚÂ
Not saying a word, the man named Zane raised his middle finger and glared at Victor.Â
(H-He just flipped Victor offâŚ)
Euren:Â Now, now, Zane. You gotta butter up to people in power if you want them to treat you well, you knowď˝?Â
Zane:Â Ah? I donât care about your bullshit philosophy. Weâre leaving.Â
Zane grabbed Euren by the scruff off his neck and dragged him away.Â
Euren: I welcome you to come do business with me againď˝ď˝ď˝ and Iâm not giving up on you, Kateď˝ď˝ď˝Â
Even while being hauled off in the literal sense, he never dropped his merchantâs smile.Â
(Euren⌠and ZaneâŚ)Â
I thought I'd come to know Crown and Vogel rather well by now, butâŚ
Now, it felt as though there was an even deeper darkness stretched out before me.Â
âŚ
ă CROWN CASTLE HALLWAY ăÂ
Victor:Â Kate, wait.Â
After the feast ended and everyone was leaving the dining hall, Victor called out to me.Â
Victor: There's something Iâd like to speak with you about⌠do you have a moment?Â
Kate: ⌠Sure.Â
I had a hunch it was about todayâs visitors.
Then suddenly, another person chimed in.
Darius:Â Iâd like to sit in on this too.
Victor: âŚ
Darius:Â I think the information I can provide will prove useful to you as well.Â
âŚ
ă VICTORâS OFFICE ăÂ
Victor:Â There is an international organisation made up entirely of the Cursed.Â
Victor:Â Unlike Crown, it wasnât formed as a part of an alliance between a country and the Cursed.Â
Victor:Â And unlike Vogel, it's not a research organisation founded to exploit the Cursed for military purposes.Â
Victor:Â Theyâre a group of outlaws unbounded by any countryâs control.Â
Victor:Â â Their name is Libra.Â
(LibraâŚ)Â
Kate:Â What kind of organisation are they, then?Â
Victor:Â Do you remember what William told you before? About the Cursed being treated as criminals or psychopaths, and a threat to society?Â
Kate:Â Yes, of course.Â
Victor:Â Apparently, Libra is an organisation where the Cursed who are societal outcasts cooperate for mutual benefit.Â
Victor:Â I've heard they engage in charitable activities for the Cursed, helping to solve problems and offering support for their everyday needs.Â
Victor:Â They also help mediate in disputes involving the Cursed.Â
Victor:Â Not every member is actively involved in their work. Some only receive support, while others keep their membership to seek help in emergencies.Â
Kate:Â So Euren and Zane are members too.Â
Victor:Â Thatâs correct. Youâre quick to catch on, Kate.Â
Victor:Â Their headquarters are in France, but they have bases all over the world.Â
Victor: Since England has Crown, they rarely interfered with the matters hereâŚÂ
Victor glanced briefly at Darius before turning his gaze back to me.
Victor:Â But there's been word of their leader having recently entered England.Â
Kate: WhyâŚ? Could there be a Cursed in England who got into trouble and asked them for help?Â
(But if that were the case, itâd be strange that Victor hasn't heard a single thing about it.)Â
Victor:Â Even we canât put a finger on what their purpose is yet.Â
Victor: Nonetheless⌠just as absolute evil doesn't exist, neither does absolute good.Â
Victor:Â Weâve also received information suggesting that Libra has an ulterior motive.Â
(Ulterior motiveâŚ?)Â
Darius:Â Why not tell it to her straight?Â
Kate: âŚ!
Darius:Â People are saying that in the shadows, Libra is an organisation formed to monitor and kill the Cursed.Â
(Monitor and kill them?)Â
Kate: ⌠Thatâs the complete opposite of everything Victor just described.Â
Darius:Â Let me teach that innocent little head of yours something.Â
Darius:Â People plotting something evil will always first approach you with a kind smile.Â
(That sounds all the more believable coming from DariusâŚ)Â
Darius: Cursed dying from unknown causes, or being killed because they made enemies⌠thatâs hardly unusual.Â
Darius:Â But if Libraâs the mastermind behind all those deaths, thatâs when things get extremely unpleasant.Â
(All Iâve heard from both sides are unconfirmed rumours, so I still canât make my own judgement.)Â
Still, their contradictory impressions made it clear that Libra was no simple organisation.Â
Victor:Â Until we know for certain what their goals are, I want you to stay on guard against them. Alright?Â
Kate: ⌠I understand.Â
âŚ
ă CROWN CASTLE HALLWAY ăÂ
As I walked down the hallway after leaving Victorâs office, I recounted todayâs events in my mind.Â
If the Cursed are the ones Libra are truly targeting, then we should be cautious with its members.Â
And yet, from what I saw today, the members of Crown and Vogel interacted with them casually like fellow human beings.Â
(I want to see them as ordinary human beings too.)Â
If we judged everything as a whole, some minor details were bound to slip through the cracks.Â
I came to realize that through working as a Fairytale Keeper.Â
â Then the incident happened that very night.Â
âŚ
ă LONDON TOWN: FOUNTAIN AREA ăÂ
The chilly night air was dense with a heavy fog, the cold clinging to my
skin.Â
Iâd gone out to town to watch a play at the theatre on my long awaited day off.Â
(HuhâŚ?)Â
On a dark street, I saw William, Jude, and Ellis.Â
Kate: Are you on a missionâŚ?Â
William:Â Oh, you spotted us. Yes, we are. It's a mission that's a little too extreme for livening up the night.Â
Ellis:Â Seeing that itâs the three of us specifically should give you a rough idea what itâs about.Â
Jude:Â We crashinâ a dinner party, knockinâ the teeth outta some puffed-up noble, punishinâ him, then callinâ it a night.Â
Just as absolute evil doesnât exist, neither does absolute good.Â
Those who âconquer evil with evilâ are still, at the end of the day, evil themselves.Â
Even so, Crown was on their way to do just that in Londonâs darkness.Â
All to preserve stability in England.Â
Kate:Â Now that Iâve run into you all, as a Fairytale Keeper I canât pretend I saw nothing and head on back to the castle anymore.Â
Jude:Â Ah? Ya seriously goinâ to a bloody scene on yer day off? There somethinâ wrong with yer head?Â
Ellis:Â What do you think, Will? Weâre expecting there to be quite a number of people at the location. This mission is dangerous.Â
William:Â If this is what she wants, I have no reason to object.Â
âŚ
ă MANSION ENTRANCE HALL ăÂ
For a mansion hosting a dinner party, the entrance hall was eerily quiet.Â
Kate: Strange that a mansion this grand doesnât have a single maid in sightâŚÂ
Indifferent to my cautiousness, Crown stepped inside.Â
The moment they flung open the doors to the dining room â we were greeted by a near unbelievable scene.
ă MANSION DINING ROOM ăÂ
Bodies laid motionless on the floor, surrounding the long dining table.Â
Kate: What on earthâŚÂ
And on top of the dining table laid the bodies of a man and woman, who clearly died together.Â
The man had a blade stabbed into the womanâs abdomen, and the woman laying on his chest had a knife in his heart.Â
What made it all the more bizarre was that they died with their lips pressed against each otherâs.Â
To my eyes, it looked as though âÂ
âA pair of lovers killed each otherâ.Â
Ellis: ⌠Theyâre dead.Â
Jude:Â Dinner for the dead? Sick as hell if ya ask me.
???:Â The party is over.Â
The unexpected voice had me snapping my head toward it.Â
Only then did I realize there was a man seated at the head of the long dining table.Â
He was strikingly handsome, his features cold yet elegant. He merely sat there with his fingers interlaced as he stared at us, and yet it felt like an invisible blade was pressed against my throat.Â
William:Â Itâs been a while, Lucien. Iâve heard rumours you were in London, but never thought our meeting would be in a place like this.Â
Lucien:Â You havenât changed, William Rex.Â
(William knows this manâŚ?)Â
Hearing the familiarity in Williamâs greeting, I stole a glance at Jude and Ellis to see if they knew him as well.Â
But both of them appeared guarded as they stared at him.Â
William: ⌠I see you still dislike small talk. Iâll be direct with my words, then. Why did they kill each other?Â
Lucien:Â It was foreseen that they would disrupt order. No further explanations are necessary.!
His curt response sounded far too void of emotion for something as severe as human death.Â
(The way he says it⌠itâs like he punished them himselfâŚ)
(Yet he doesnât have a single drop of blood on him.)Â
More importantly, he was sitting in the same space so calmly.Â
(Was he sitting there, watching them kill each other?)Â
That horrifying thought crossed my mind, then our eyes met â and a chill ran down my spine.
Jude: ⌠Targetâs dead, so the missionâs done. Iâm goinâ home.
Euren: Eeehh⌠my favourite seniorâs leaving already?
(THAT VOICEâ!)Â
I spun around to see two people standing in the doorway.Â
One was Euren, the dubious looking broker Iâd met earlier in the day at Crownâs castle.Â
The other was Zane, the rumoured master hitman whoâd punched Euren in the head and dragged him away.Â
Euren: Since youâre already here, letâs chat a little moreď˝Â
Euren:Â You think so too, right, Kate?
Zane: ⌠Whyâs there a woman here? Sheâs being a nuisance.Â
Neither of them looked the slightest bit shocked at the scene before them.Â
Lucien:Â Euren, I ask you to leave if youâre only here to make small talk. Your voice grates my ears.Â
Euren: Ahh, thatâs so cruelď˝ youâre as cold as ever, but I like that about youď˝âĄÂ
Euren:Â Donât worry, I did a proper job. Right, Zane? I worked hard, riiiighttď˝?Â
Zane:Â Shut up, scum.Â
(Euren and Zane, members of Libra, seem to know him too.)
(And William mentioned thereâs been ârumours of Libraâs leader being in Londonâ. Could it be that this man isâŚ)Â
William: This is Lord Lucien Morsandre, a member of one of Franceâs most distinguished noble familiesâÂ
William:Â â And the current leader of Libra.Â
(Just as I thoughtâŚ!)Â
Victor had described Libra to be a charitable organisation that helped the Cursed by solving their problems and supporting their livelihoods.Â
But if they had anything to do with the scene before my eyes, then âcharitableâ is the last word Iâd use to describe them.Â
William:Â Wonât you tell me why you came to England?
Lucien:Â I donât see why I have to.Â
Lucien:Â I came to do what must be done. Thatâs all you need to know.Â
Lucien gave a short, brief response before standing and walking toward us.Â
As he came closer, I realized how tall he was.Â
The sheer aura his presence gave off was enough to leave me breathless.Â
Williamâs gaze met Lucienâs, and for a brief moment, a murderous intent sharp enough to make my skin crawl hung in the air before vanish just as quickly.Â
William:Â If you plan to operate in England, Iâll remind you that Crown has our eyes on you.Â
Lucien:Â Be my guest. Weâll be doing the same.Â
William:Â Since you went through all the trouble of travelling to England, perhaps I should invite you to Crownâs castle sometime.Â
Lucien:Â Should there be a need, Iâll visit you myself.Â
Their exchange appeared amicable on the surface, until they broke eye contactâŚÂ
â And a cold gaze fell upon me.Â
Lucien:Â You interest me as well, Fairytale Keeper Kate.Â
(⌠Me?)Â
I never imagined someone who wasnât a Cursed would be interested in me.Â
William and the others immediately stepped between us, blocking me from Lucienâs line of sight.Â
William:Â Unfortunately, sheâs one of Englandâs top secrets.Â
Jude:Â Kate, we leavinâ.Â
Ellis: ⌠Sorry, I suggest you give up on finding anything on Kate.Â
I left the room, shielded by the three of them.Â
Euren: Aww, sheâs so precious to them⌠should we really be letting her go so easily?Â
Lucien:Â Leave her be.Â
Lucien: ⌠We will meet again soon enough.Â
âLibraâ â What exactly are they after?
Learning the answer to that question would become the catalyst for the destruction of the stability in England and my world.Â
â That was something still unbeknownst to me.Â
âŚ
ă UNKNOWN ROOM ăÂ
The ticking of a broken clock echoed in the pitch darkness.Â
Tracing his cold fingertips on a carelessly discarded list on the desk, the man muttered under his breath.
Lucien:Â They possess too much power.Â
Lucien:Â â Itâs time we bring this fairytale to an end.

After the wedding ceremony, we returned to our room together.
Nica: You really went and married me. Thereâs no escaping now, you know?
Without missing a beat, he guided me toward the bed. Sitting down beside him, I reached for his clothes as we exchanged lighthearted words.
Kate: Do you want me to run away?
Nica: âŚWho knows.
A small flicker of irritation rose in me when he looked away, and I answered him with a teasing smile.
Kate: Well, you gave me such a wonderful proposal. Thatâs why I decided to marry you.
Kate: Donât tell me youâve already forgotten what you said?
Nica would never say something as irresponsible as âIâll make you happyâ. Even when he proposed, he never made promises like that.
But that day, in his own way, Nica had vowed to love me for the rest of his life.
That alone had been more than enough to make me happy, and yetâŚ
tap point- his clothes
As I helped him out of his clothes, he slipped his arms around my back and loosened the ribbons of my dress.
Kate: What was it again? âAs long as perle is with meââ?
Wearing a mischievous smile, I held his gaze, wanting to hear those words one more time.
Nica: I ought to shut that mouth of yours before it says anything else.
Kate: Nnâ!
But the very next moment, my lips were stolen, and I was pushed back onto the bed.
The dress was tugged down with little care, exposing my breasts beneath.
Kate: Ah⌠Nica, nnâŚ
While he continued to kiss me, his fingers teased my hardened nipples, sending sweet waves of pleasure through my entire body.
When he finally pulled away, Nica gathered up my dress with enough force to nearly tear it.
Nica: How long have you been this wet?
Kate: Ahâ
He pressed a finger against the damp fabric of my underwear, and I instinctively rubbed my thighs together as I felt the moisture spread.
Nica: Donât tell me youâve been turned on since the ceremony. What a naughty bride.
Kate: N-noâ ahâŚ!
He pulled my underwear aside, and something warm and wet touched me.
Startled, I lifted my head and found Nicaâs face buried between my thighs, his tongue teasing me.
Kate: Ah⌠nnghâŚ
Nica: Kate, you just keep getting wetter and wetter. Youâre making me lose my mind here.
As his tongue teased me from the inside, I was already struggling to keep myself together, and then he wrapped his lips around my clit, sucking hard.
Kate: Ohhhâ!!
The moment I came, his tongue was replaced by his fingers, and it was enough to drive me crazy.
Nica: Hah⌠youâre absolutely soaked. Did it feel that good?
I could only writhe against the pleasure his fingers drew from me, clutching the sheets tightly â when suddenly, he bit down on the inside of my thigh.
Kate: Whaâ!?
The sudden sting of pain caught me completely off guard, and my abdomen tensed instinctively.
But because of that, his fingers found exactly the right spot, and I helplessly reached a second climax.
(Heâs biting harder than usualâŚ)
He often bit me during sex, but this pain was nothing like before.
As I was still reeling from the surprise, Nica pressed his cock against my slick entrance.
Kate: Ah!
He thrust into me in a single motion, and my vision went white.
But Nica paid it no mind and immediately began moving his hips, the pace leaving me with no choice but to cling to him.
Kate: Ah⌠youâre goingâŚ. too fast!
Nica: Iâve been pent up too, since we couldnât do anything while we were busy preparing for the wedding.
Nica: Sorry, but youâre staying with me until daybreak, so brace yourself.
The wet sounds of our bodies echoed through the room, each thrust stirring the deepest part of me and leaving the ache inside me impossible to ignore.
Butâ
(I canât look at his face.)
Whenever Nica and I do this, I like watching the moments when he loses his composure.
(Thereâs something that makes me happy about seeing Nica so completely absorbed in me.)
But tonight, for some reason, I just couldnât bring myself to look at him. Every time our eyes met, I looked away.
Until he finally caught my cheeks in his hand.
Nica: Why do you keep looking away? You love looking at my face when we have sex, donât you?
Kate: Um⌠ah!
When I hesitated, he bit down lightly on my neck and began leaving bite marks across my body.
Nica: If you donât tell me honestly, Iâm gonna keep biting you.
Kate: Ah! B-because this is our first time doing this after getting marriedâŚ
Kate: I didnât know how I was supposed to look at you now that youâre my husband!
Nica froze, staring at me with a blank expression.
After blinking several times, a smile as sweet as melting honey slowly spread across his face.
Nica: Whatâs that supposed to mean? Thatâs adorable.
Kate: Ah!!
He drove into me even harder than before, hitting deep inside me, and my vision instantly went white.
By the time my body was covered in bite marks and blooming red flowers, Nica had furrowed his brow and tightened his grip around our joined hands.
At that moment, I felt the ring resting on my finger â and a wave of happiness welled up from deep within me.
(AhâŚ)
Letting out a quiet breath, Nica lifted our intertwined hands and brushed his cheek against my left hand.
Nica: âŚI wonât say Iâll make you happy, and I probably never will.
Nica: But I canât be happy anymore unless Iâm with you. Soâ
With his other hand, he gently traced the bite marks along my inner thigh.
Nica: Iâm going to leave my mark on this body. No matter how awful I am, Iâll make sure you can never leave me for the rest of your life.
Nica: Iâll toy with you, lead you astray, ruin you completely⌠and drag you down into the most beautiful hell with me.
Tears of happiness spilled from the corners of my eyes.
Seeing them, Nica smiled at me with unmistakable tenderness.
Kate: Bring it on.
At my answer, Nica softly kissed the ring on my finger before pulling me tightly into his arms.
Nica: Take care of me, my beloved wife.
Until the day we finally see the dawn, we would continue to struggle together in the finest hell of all â our life together.
