Cambridge professor of sociology Jason Arday is accused of plagiarism by another academic

the accuser is a "race realist" who believes that in a true meritocracy all university professors would be white. this is somehow not acknowledged much during the entire ordeal

this leads to several days of media coverage demanding an investigation, or that Arday is expelled from his post immediately

somehow this accusation that has no effect on the lives of 99.99% of the population becomes FRONT PAGE NEWS in all the newspapers for multiple days, above anything else happening in the UK or the world at large

following intense media scrutiny, Arday resigns his post as a Cambridge professor

today, august 14th, days after resigning, Arday is found dead at his home in Battersea

the British tabloid press remains, and will always be, fucking evil

#I'm so fucking angry about this. every moment of this.#nobody seems to know who Nathan Cofnas (Arday's accuser) is and I really think it brings into sharp focus exactly what is going on here #tldr I've read a bunch of Cofnas' blog because a friend of mine #was tangentially involved in a campaign to get him removed as a research assistant at her college at Cambridge #because he used to work there. before he was suspended for being an enthusiastic proponent of race as biological determinism.#and then the university quietly reinstated him in 2025. which is probably worth remembering.#Cofnas is a Nazi. as in he spends a good 20% of his blog's read time acknowledging commonalities between his work and Nazism.#there could not be more of a blatantly racist motivation behind his accusation. this should be obvious for anyone who reads his work.#if you wanted to know what this is really about it's pretty telling that on his substack he suggested #that since Arday had been fired Cofnas should be given his position in order to 'restor[e] trust in higher education'.#and yet every single report on this story briefly mentions the controversy of the 'race realism' thing #before going on to solemnly comment on cambridge university's hiring practices.#like let's be clear. the british tabloid press have tacitly or otherwise supported an open racist's deliberate and malicious effort #to drive Black professors in general (1% of higher education staff in the UK btw) from academia #bolstered at all turns by a uni administration that all but turned a blind eye to Cofnas before staff & student outrage compelled them #and yet threw Arday under the bus of the tabloid media. and now he's dead.
