You guys remember the scene at the very end in the hospital when Ballister learns that Nimona is actually alive, but she disappears into thin air before they can have a conversation? This is how I think that conversation would go, if it had happened.
"Hey Boss, how's it going?" Nimona's usual laid-back greeting felt comically out of place in the current circumstances. "You're alive," Ballister said, still disbelieving. Nimona looked at herself up and down, and said, "Well, yeah. I guess I am." Then she smirked. "Are you gonna ask me how that's scientifically possible?"
With a small, weary smile, Ballister shook his head. "No, don't worry. I've learned that some things are better left unexplained. But I do have a different question," he said cautiously. "Shoot." "So, um," he faltered, trying not to sound too hopeful, "Where do you plan on going now? Y'know, when... everything's settled down."
Nimona shrugged. "Away," she said simply. "Far away. I can't stay here– not now, anyway. Besides," she added, "You need a break. From me!" She chuckled, attempting to lift his spirits, but a sense of sadness still hung in the air between them.
Ballister opened his mouth to reply, but he couldn't say anything. He couldn't hide the disappointment in his eyes. "Well, alright," he finally said softly. "Guess this is it, then."
"Aw, Boss, don't look like that," Nimona said with a little grin. "You know it's for the best."
Eventually, Ballister nodded. "Yeah," he said, clearing his throat, "Yes, of course. It's for the best. Well-" "Lord Blackheart!" Ballister quickly turned around; Dr. Rhodes stood in the doorway. "Sir Goldenloin is awake. He's asking for you." For a moment, Ballister looked immensely relieved. Then he turned back to Nimona and his expression turned pained again. "I'm sorry," he said to her, "I think my... my boyfriend needs me. But-" "Boss, you've paid attention to me for, like, two years now," Nimona said sincerely. "Go pay attention to him. It's okay. I'll see you around." Ballister turned back to the Doctor, who stood waiting for him, and then back to Nimona, when he gasped softly - Nimona was gone.
