Wyatt is a noman. Wyatt does not know he is a noman.

Soo this requires some knowledge of Aaylah's backstory. When Aaylah was a tiiiny child having just come down to the neath, she lived with her father, Ahmad. Her father (before he was kidnapped) had some knowledge that he had caught the eye of... dangerous powers. The Optimist was a plan to protect his daughter after he's gone.

He wants something that will live as long as Aaylah will. That will understand her. Something brimming with compassion and patience, so that it can raise her if need be.

He waits till winter. He gathers the lacre, and the amber. He takes a sample of his daughter's blood.

He builds this creature in the Forgotten Quarter. He gives it a heartmetal heart imbued with one belief, the thing that has kept him going this long and that will allow him to serve his purpose:

All shall be well. You shall make it so.

And so, the Starry-Eyed Optimist is born.

He's succeeded. His child will be safe.

...or, at least, she would have been, if not for Ahmad falling unconscious there and then and figures descending out of the mist to take him away.

The Optimist comes to consciousness as what could be called his father notices himself falling asleep. He commands the creature that could be called his son to run.

The Optimist does as he's told, and doesn't look back.

He runs, and runs, and runs.

Finally, he finds shelter. A cave. He doesn't venture deep, but he sits in its mouth for a while.

It glows with such lovely purple light.

He doesn't need to worry.

No one will find him here.

No one will find— who is he again?

A nameless boy stumbles out of the nadir. He walks and walks till an orphanage takes him in.

People keep asking him about his name— he gets the sense he's meant to have one of those. He picks one he likes out of a penny dreadful left in the dorms.

He likes that.

A lost boy grows into a lost man. There's a reason he exists, a purpose, he knows it. It's on the tip of his tongue, it is—

He's meant to protect. To care. To make things right.

1) an Altered Future. The Tailor escapes Death’s clutches for eons, changing incrementally until they become a true Shame, a thing of knots and weaves. They find the Naturalist, their shameless Shame, and the two commingle their choirs for all eternity.

I mean, your description is technically what happens in the Loom, so. There you are.

2) an Altered Future, redux. The Tailor changes and avoids Death and finds the Naturalist again but they still both manage to be, at the end of the day, somehow still themselves at heart. Aware, sentient, watching the wild shit people get up to and loving every second of it. They’re not human in form anymore and maybe vast light years separate them in reality but that love is a common language. Imagine watching the great human experience while eating a bag of popcorn with your favorite person who keeps going on autistic tangents as you watch. The movie never ends.

3) a Chilly Confinement. The Veiled Intriguer gets what it wants and is turned back into a Curator before the Seven Cities are through, and performs Red Science on the Tailor without their consent to lengthen their lifespan and make them able to survive the conditions of the High Wilderness, but leaves them in enough of a human form to keep them weak. It drags them to the stars as part of its hoard, and their mind is warped to be resigned to this fate. This is a Bad End.

4) a Chilly Entanglement. Similar to above: the Veiled Intriguer gets what it wants and is turned back into a Curator before the end of the Seven Cities, and performs Red Science on the Tailor against their will. It turns them into a Curator like it, in a twisted sense of equal footing. They “join” the other Masters at the end of the Seven Cities into the High Wilderness. This is still a Bad End.
