Hues widened at the inquiry, aforementioned lipstick fell a few inches from his lips as he looked at the yonko in wonder. Did he really think about those things?  

He was in need of affection, wasn’t he? Poor guy, it must’ve been lonely.

❝I dunno.❞

He replied with a strange calmness to his tone.

❝I’ve never really thought about it. Do you think he did?❞

What was he doing right now? This was so unorthodox for Buggy who always seemed to have a boisterous presence to him. But maybe he was able to feel empathy sometimes, especially toward Shanks. As much as he hated to admit it.

He let out another sigh, trying to put his thoughts into words. He hated tarnishing the memories he had, but it was something… something that had been eating at him. Other people could talk to him about it, but no one would understand quite like Buggy would. Maybe Rayleigh. But how would he approach him about this? 

“I used to,” he said, slow. “I thought that we were perhaps like his sons. Considered him a father but… but then you know the thing with Ace.” 

“If he’d do so much to protect his real son,” he didn’t know how Buggy had felt about things, how he had perceived the events. Maybe Shanks was alone in his memories? It wouldn’t be the first time, “And we were… left behind? Then what were we to him? Were we not his family too? I… it doesn’t seem like it.” 

❝Shanks.❞ 

Replied the clown, a sigh making his shoulders drop.

❝Look, as much as I don’t wanna ... Well... As much as you may have seen that thing as a family with Roger as the dad, that’s not at all how I saw it. We were just kids, cabin boys, that’s how everyone else looked at us, wasn’t it?❞
