Hi there! I'm participating in my first poetry slam on Saturday. I need to prepare 3 poems and I'm terrified. I don't actually know which of my poems resonate with most people.

Theres a prize of $150. So I kinda want to win.

Here I am again, alone in a crowd My footsteps grow harder, the silence so loud. Screaming in an abyss, no one has to know Deep loneliness, my heart its home.

On goes the river, time passes me by, Despite drowning in sorrows, no one hears my cries. Heartbeat deafening, breath so rushed, Yet why is my insecurity so visibly hushed?

Once again, nothing to cling to, I fall but the leaves let me fall through, No hands to hold, my limbs they splay The crowd grows distant, the whipporwill quays.

They're blind in their happiness, no one to see, Lost in the shadows, a lock with no key, Hiding myself away so they won't know How hard the heart pounds when I'm feeling so low.

Sweet mercies, cruel givings A life like this is not truly living, Soft touches, words tender, Fickle feelings and false pretenders If there was a world far away With the sun and the stars out to play If there was a world far and few What chances would there be for me to do The grand things my little heart desires For it's like pulling a thimble from a thicket of briars

Is there any mercy me Thumb on wrist, tongue on teeth, The dreamer's dreams are nothing mild Return to wild, return to wild,

Let the roots of the trees reclaim you Sing the song of the birds, let them laugh You'll be heard, though the thicket overgrew. Kings and poets lost to time, hear them rhyme, Beneath the ground the rot, the crunch It comes ever near, the decaying clutch

Though the heart is what bleeds, We grieve within twisted weeds, The heart so cruel to reach beyond Our twisted grasp, our ragged bonds,

When the night chills the air, The cold wind and warm breeze spin on, Birds tumble on through despair, I love you, I love you I cry, Yet the words don't escape The mist by mouth shaped.

Desperate for a time Desperation runs wild, spinning the twine Your lips on skin and gentle caress Do words confess, what lies in your chest?

Say my name like you mean it; If I'm a promise, would you keep it? Would you love me like you want me? Do you think maybe you've got me?

I don't know I don't mean to be shallow You might be right, I didn't think you were the type

If the rose is blooming, Does it wilt like it is swooning? Is there water in your vase? Don't believe you in any case

I don't know Maybe you're the color yellow, This game contrite, Don't feel quite right...

If a house were fraying Would you fix it for your staying? Do the walls cave in? Will the story ever begin?

I don't know, I'm pushing you to go. Leave me alone The nightly shadow's overgrown

Just tell me that you' d like me That's my simple toll-man's fee. Give yourself up to the sea Maybe then my heart you'll free

Soft escape sea cliffs yonder, White dresses, freckled face, Gentle eyes so often pondered.
