photos of an american crow with a genetic mutation known as leucism. leucism is a condition that results in a partial lack of pigmentation, as opposed to albinism, which is a complete absence of melanin (and results often in stark white plumage combined with pink eyes and skin). leucistic birds often struggle in the wild, as melanin is an important component in feathers and without it, feathers are often formed weaker and more brittle; these birds also typically have poorer eyesight.
