If you work at an outside venue this summer.
I understand you're gonna sell alcohol. That's fine. If it's not advertised as for kids or frankly friendly you're going to sell beer.
But you also have to sell something other than water.
I have heat intolerance. That means I'm more susceptible to heat stroke than the average person.
But drinking large amounts of water isn't always "hydrating". Drinking too much water can fuck with your electrolytes. So for people like me that have to suck down 40 oz of water to try to stay "hydrated" while we're sweating, that can cause just as many problems.
Please, for the love of the gods and safety of disabled people that enjoy outside events too.
Offer some Gatorade or powerade at your events if you're not going to let people bring outside food or drinks. Or at least put fucking salt in your fucking condiment stand so we can figure it out ourselves.
"Oh but why would you go to this event if being outside in the heat is so dangerous for you?"
You know. I'm actually pretty high functioning for a disabled person. I can actually go out in the heat and manage really well. If people stopped fucking acting like drinking 60 oz of water while I'm outside for a few hours was the correct way to hydrate while I'm bitching about getting a migraine. "Just drink more water. Just drink more water."
If I drink 40 oz and still feel like shit, maybe more water isn't gonna help? Shit maybe if I drink 12 oz and still feel like shit maybe I should try something else to see if it helps me more? Just a thought. Maybe we should listen to me, who has been in this body for over 30 years and had experience with having to be outside in the heat for over 12 hours and what's helped me best, and not your brain logic thinks makes sense?
