Alduin (Dry Ink Brush style)
筆絵アルドゥインその2
Hello friends we need to talk about this twitter account:
You might know him from a thread where he was getting wowed by free appetisers in a Mexican restaurant.
Firstly: He is doing a bit pretending to be a wandering samurai. It's a joke and his posts are all made up. This is very obvious if you actually look at his account and website:
He does purport to be Japanese but based on some of the other content he posts there's reason to believe he's British.
Which brings me to my second point: his Samurai content is interspersed with posts like this:
And this:
He is not cute or funny. Stop platforming him.
The chips and salsa thread went viral in June and his website seems to have gone live in July. This confirms what I suspected which is that said website with it's explicit disclaimers was made in response to the big viral hit.
Consequently, back when he first blew up it was potentially a bit harder to figure out that his stories are fictional. That said, the New York Times worked it out so I'm comfortable accusing outlets who ran the story describing him as a Japanese world cup tourist of legitimately terrible journalism.
Regarding some comments in the notes:
Yeah this is also the guy from the truck thread going around. That's what prompted this post and in retrospect I should have said so explicitly.
He claims he just uses AI to translate his posts from Japanese. He also says the art on his website isn't AI generated. I think he is full of shit on both counts.
I only gave a couple of examples but even on a brief look through his twitter it was apparent that he posts a LOT about UK politics to the point where he's quite patently British. He is a Restore supporter which is a party that split away from mainstream far right party Reform due to feeling they weren't right wing enough.
It might not surprise you to hear he does not seem to know shit about Japan? Both the salsa story and the truck story failed the smell test for people who are familiar with Japan. There's also a story about going to a potluck where he seemingly couldn't come up with a single Japanese dish for the character to cook??
Yeah his whole bit is racist and it is troubling that so many people took a guy badly roleplaying as a medieval samurai to be a 21st century Japanese tourist.
i must not piss myself off. pissing myself off is the myself pisser offer

we need to invent a spray tan-style treatment but instead of spraying you with tanning stuff it sprays you with heavy duty spf. and it lasts a few weeks so that way you can just get your spf spray a few times a summer instead of having to spend 10 minutes every day getting sticky and oily and making sure the sunscreen is all rubbed in. how do i get on shark tank
ok well maybe her little finger is really cozy and honestly there are worse places to be wrapped around. did you ever think about that

the thing that other gender members don't understand is that members of my gender are constantly being judged and scrutinised by society and the world around us, so we often end up having to become very self-conscious as a survival mechanism; unlike other gender members who i presume probably float gently through life on a cloud of passive acceptance or something
The thing that trans people of the other gender don't understand is that trans people of my gender are pressured and bullied into conforming to our assigned gender which is mentally and often physically dangerous. We receive tacit approval for conforming to our assigned gender and are punished for conforming to our proper gender. Since I never experienced pressure in the opposite direction, clearly trans people of the other gender didn't either. Everyone in the world must have experienced this pressure in the same direction as me, so trans people of the opposite gender were receiving tacit approval and support for transitioning, and are not oppressed like trans people of my gender.
it does actually bother me whenever it's like... a bunch of guys and 1 girl. like the smurfs. that's weird. the minions are also weird for it being all guys. stop doing this
and yes I am saying your fictional characters can only ever be women now. and you have to be normal about it . no misogynistic jokes
drives me nuts when ppl act like its somehow feminist to be a huge asshole to people because 'men are allowed to behave that way,' or whatever. ok. well i dont think men should be treating people like that either. and if they talk to me like you are talking to me, i will judge and avoid them as well.
"society gives men a pass for behaving in hurtful and selfish ways without consideration for the impact it has on the people around them, particularly those with less power" yeah
"so I'm going to deliberately emulate this behavior, and it will be feminist of me to do so" incorrect
I completely agree - however. I do want to say (and I don't think this is exactly the same as what OP is saying) there are things that are considered fine or neutral when men do them, but bitchy if a woman does.
I'm direct, by that I mean, I don't like couching things in "I know you're trying to help, and I so appreciate that about you, but next time can you X instead of Y?" I say "Hey, I don't like when you X to me. Please don't." It's clear, it's unambiguous, and I think dancing around an issue is confusing or even insulting.
Because I am a woman, I have been told BY OTHER WOMEN, this makes me aggressive and this is bad. I think we can safely say my example is fairly neutral, not outrageously aggressive. I'm not sure how you would make that unambiguously aggressive. Maybe "Stop doing X or I'll punch you," idk.
I'm not sure how to further refine this except to say, sometimes it's not the behavior itself, it's the social, gendered lens put upon it that is eliciting this reaction.
I'm really glad you added this especially since it has moved beyond my immediate friend sphere -- SO many ppl do not understand how unconscious social bias works. And do not think that they could possibly have any. It's actually something you have to actively work to keep in mind ALL of the time. Its not like, one and done. Every time you're reacting to someone, its important to reflect on what that reaction is and why, and what factors are contributing to it. Its important to note who gets socially punished for what behaviors and who doesn't!
“sparkling water” sounds… so pure. so aesthetically pleasing. but in actuality? it is…. Repulsive
