not that my experience is end all be all, but most criticism ive seen of bloodymary isnt about it being cringe, but the fact that people refuse to engage with any of the themes of the movie (phm i mean, havent seen iron lung) which at their core are about friendship and all kinds of love that arent romantic, be it love for your friend, love for earth, humanity, life, yourself. the need to bring a man from a whole different movie to ship with grace when he already has interesting and complex relationship with three different characters in his own movie, they just so happen to be a woman, a black man and an alien, two of which fandom spaces infamously cant be normal about. or, heres an idea, just have a character not be in a romantic relationship at all bc yall took a character so many aroace people identified with and forced him into most cookie cutter yaoi the likes of which there are already billions of on AO3
