You should see me in a Crown

As someone who’d been banned from sweets from a very young age, Connie could only lift her eyebrows and smile sweetly. “I’m sure that would be quite a highlight for a small town gal like you. The Bacon Queen of Alabama. We’d have to get you a billboard and everythin’.”

“Whatever it is can’t be worse than potty training.” She dropped her purse into the seat beside her as she sat down. She wasn’t the least bit scared of Delilah of her tempers. She’d faced pageant moms who would sooner see her roasted on a spit than beating their daughter’s to the crown. “That’s where you and I differ. I’d never get my own hands dirty.”

“What it is,” Connie tossed the paper to the side, “is boring. Honestly there must be somethin’ more interesting to talk about in our town newsletter than late night snacks.” She pushed her hair to the side as she sat back against the bench only then noticing that Rosemary had quit the slides and decided to start throwing bits of mulch into her purse. “Rosemary Booth! Stop that this instant!” She grabbed the purse from her daughter’s range, sighing. “Never have children,” she told the man. “Never.”

"Can you believe that they don't have an attendant to dress Rosemary?" She'd been bored with the afternoon, so she'd called up Bonnie to see if they wanted to have a little fun. Her daughter wasn't going down the aisle as a flower girl in anything less than designer dress, but that didn't mean she couldn't try on a few of the 'bargain deals' at the closest David's Bridal. When she'd been prom dress shopping she'd stopped by a few chain stores to laugh at some of the options herself. She hadn't, however, realized that there wouldn't be someone there to take the work of dressing her two year old.

Her girl currently was dragging behind them eyes on her tablet as Elmo ran through the alphabet song for the fifteenth time. She'd already had to wrestle her into her current sunflower dress. "I wouldn't have worn these heels if I knew that."

The day was quiet and pleasant as she sat in the shade of an oak tree at the local playground. Later this afternoon she’d be hosting her pageant training class in the school gymnasium, but for now she just had Rosemary. She’d grabbed the latest edition of the Frostford Herald to browse. She missed the bigger, and juicier papers from Montgomery but it was more entertaining then watching her two year old go up and down the same slide five hundred times. She was so deep into reading the latest column that she didn’t notice her daughter walking over and starting to shovel mulch into her open Birkin bag. She did however notice when someone sat down beside her. “I’d rather see some innocent sap go to prison then admit I’d eaten five pounds of bacon,” she said, waving the paper, with the mention of the Boland ‘robbery’ around.
