They say friendships that last longer than 7 years will outlive eternity. Chester Bennington and Mike Shinoda have known each other for more than 17 years now. The core of the legendary six-man-rock-band Linkin Park experienced not only the typical rockstar life during the last decades, but grew to become a family. In the early 2000s they represented the DNA of America’s youth. Mutual respect, loyalty and reliability defined the last 17 years of the band.  Shinoda and Bennington seemed to be satisfied and at peace when we met them in an elegant Berlin hotel. They talked and talked to each other, recounted anecdotes, discussed Depeche Mode and Kendrick Lamar. There’s the living proof sitting on that couch: Linkin Park are more than just a legendary band. It’s a friendship for eternity.

When I think of Chester, I see his face, which was always smiling. I think about his heart, which he wore on his sleeve. I think how kindly he treated me, my brother, Tomo, our band. I think about his wife and his six, six incredible children. I think about his family. I think about his band, who were really his brothers. And I remember his voice.
