Parents want us to play the same games they did: invest, in yourself, in others, in book learning, creep on the future, be reasonable, listen to wisdom, write it down, etc. And i can hold my mother’s arm when i take her out to dinner, and i can tell my father that he’s wrong, and i can hold my own through all of this, even though in their truest, worst moments they don’t really want me to, and i can say i’m a rebel and we are different and fuck off.
