Here are some of the FiFW highlights! Here are a select few of some of the great interviews we have collected over the summer, check out the rest and stay tuned for more great interviews to come!
“My grand-kids run this truck. They are fixing my supper right now.” [Communicator] “How do you like being a Grandpa?” “Oh, it’s the greatest thing there is next to having a child of your own. Yeah I was a barber here for 40 years…” “Do you still do that?” “No I’m retired… great people. There were some great people.” “What’s the best part about being retired?” “Well, being able to travel, sleep in, I went on a nature hike today with granddaughter and that was nice…” “What’s the hardest part about being retired?” “Well, I lost my wife about a year an a half ago so that’s kind of hard, but the hardest part is not overeating. Yeah, it gets a little lonely, but I have a lot of good friends…” “What do you do to not be lonely?” “I go to my daughters every Sunday night and I have a few friends I socialize with.. and I have a group I kayak with on Tuesday and Thursday’s…I’m pretty active.” “How old are you? If you don’t mind me asking.” “80.” “You don’t look 80.” “Well, I don’t feel 80!”
The Communicator was invited to attend the Beer Olympics of West Central a self-described “Third Annual First Official” event hosted in the heart of West Central. A group of twenty-something year old West Central dwellers procured a block party permit and hosted a series of Olympic style events for teams to compete in. Food was hosted by Just Put it in Your Mouth catering and the event was open to every and anyone who received a Facebook or word-of-mouth invitation (or happened to hear the noise and wander in).

The Communicator is proud to launch a new weekly series, Faces in Fort Wayne, which aims to connect you, the reader, with the Fort Wayne community.
Through a series of candid photographs and conversation we hope to portray an intimate depiction of those who work, survive, play, love, try, fail, succeed and live in the city we call home.
(right) “I like Fort Wayne” (Communicator) “How long have you been here?” “I already spent one week– this is my last week before I go back to Germany.” “What do you think of it?” “It’s cute. Everyone is very friendly.” “What’s the biggest difference between Fort Wayne and Germany?” “Everything. You buy all the things in very big sizes and we all always have the small sizes. So yeah, for example over there, [points to parking meter] but normally you can pay with credit cards in parking – we don’t have that in Germany. We use a lot more cash and you have to go very far away and you don’t have to walk so many distances.” “What has been the biggest cultural shock between here and there?” “You have a lot of homeless people we don’t have that in Germany because of the social society we have and yeah, that’s pretty bad, but–” (left) “–I’ve noticed that compared to Milwaukee as well. A lot of smaller cities have a lot more homeless people. You go to the suburbs in Milwaukee and you don’t see that. I don’t know if it’s purely economical standards and the types of cities, because I come from a pretty good area, so yeah, I don’t know… because Milwaukee is a bigger city maybe it’s easier to get a job there and harder to get one here. It could definitely be that.”

A new survey found that 30 percent of Americans admit to getting their most of their news from Facebook. When Facebook found out, they actually decided to experiment with printing a newspaper. We got a copy.
If Facebook were a newspaper…these headlines would be too real.
