April was a great month for me. I made $733.50 selling comics that I originally spent $243.72 on! That's $427.77 in profit! See the screenshot of my spreadsheet. If you're selling a lot of comics or whatever in general, it's important to keep track of your sales and make sure to factor in ebay and paypal fees.Â
BUT!
Yes big BUT. Unfortunately it was a pretty tough financial month going into May. Got hit with several expenses.Â
Hotel deposit for SDCC - around $450
$300 in car repairs
Bought Boyz II Men tickets for me and the wife.Â
Also reinvested almost $192 into another comic - a high grade copy of Fantastic Four #46, 1st appearance of Black Bolt. I expect to at least double my money once I get it graded and when the Inhumans movie comes out (crossing fingers!). It's a tough comic to find in high grade. I already have 7 copies of this that I've been hoarding.Â
This didn't leave me anything to put into my holy grail fund. But I still deposited $50.Â
Today I created my savings goal account on SmartyPig for my "holy grail comic".
I set it for $1000 and made a first deposit of $50.
Normally I would set it for automatic monthly or bi-weekly deposits but since I am only contributing profits from only my comic book sales and not my regular income, I will be making deposits of different amounts based on my profits from each month of selling comics on feebay.

To kick off my first sale that was going to go into my "holy grail" savings, I sold a golden age Batman #66 that was given to me for free from a friend who didn't really see the value in it since it was ripped up. I was going through a box of his comics and was surprised to see this comic in a box full of mostly 90's X-Men comics. Knowing that golden age comics, especially Batman can still sell for a pretty penny, even in poor condition, I was curious to see how much I could get for this. It sold for $105! Minus ebay fees and shipping I made a total of $91.76!
I spent $40 of that money on a few comics:
Scalped #1 which just got picked up for a tv series ($30, now currently at $100ish). Hoping to flip this for more profit when the show airs.
Collider #1 - got picked up for a movie adaptation. $8. Hoping to flip it for at least $20.
I put $50 in my SmartyPig savings goal account.Â
