artist here, pausing current shenanigans for a little introduction post.
magolor is a kirby character! you can learn more about him from his wiKirby page and/or by playing Kirby Return to Dreamland Deluxe, the remake of his debut game (which im recommending specifically over the original bc it gives him a whole extra character arc, which this blog references heavily). yes the way i draw him looks quite a bit different from his official render. i dont know how this happened either
this post got long so more information about magolor in general as well as magolor as i personally play him under the cut
some preliminary things to know about magolor in general
he got possessed by a crown once, its still a very sore spot for him
he used to run a shop selling gem apples, which he used the funds for to build the theme park Merry Magoland (this isnt really canon to the games but its canon to my heart)
hes a bit full of himself
may add other things eventually, as im thinking of making this the new pinned post
and some things to know about this iteration of magolor specifically:
he is a bat (not a cat)
this is post epilogue magolor, and maxed out all his abilities before leaving that dimension (though he still collects magic points when he gets the chance.. you never know when you might need em!)
merry magoland is his pride and joy, most other things come secondary
very very full of guilt and trauma but pretends not to be
the crown incident resulted in some.....physical alterations to his body that he doesnt like to talk about

Y’know, I’ve been curious about this for a while… what kinda bat are you, anyway? I know for certain that you aren’t the only bat(-like?) creature out there, even Popstar has its own! So, if you’re willing to share, I’d be happy to learn!
(Ooc, I feel like you’ve mentioned Batolor being inspired by a specific type of bat before? Maybe you haven’t, but either way, the thought comes to mind— so why not send a little ask about it? I love learning things about this guy)

Magolor is based more on the concept of bats than anything else, but when it comes to specifics I tend to reference little brown bats and flying foxes! He's naturally nocturnal (though hes trying to adopt a diurnal lifestyle), and while you all are familiar with his fondness of fruit he also has a secret weakness for insects, especially if they've been fried and seasoned. He even enjoys a sip of nectar every now and then! But he generally tries to keep these bat specific traits under wraps so they don't weird people out.
Others of his species tend to each resemble different kinds of bats, with their habits and such shifting a bit based on what species of bat(s) they take after. But they all work together, hunting and foraging and farming to make sure everyone's needs are met.
You want the goods? Well, then here, physical evidence of the goods! Right here in front of you! All you gotta do is tell the audience here a bit about your past, and you’ll get them! That’s all. :]
You “have a reputation to maintain,” you say? What kinda business were you up to, back then? I’m sure most of us askers are already aware of your sometimes… deceptive nature; are there really still things to hide?
If I promise to not tell a soul, would you at least throw some little hints? I can sign a contract, let my promise be sealed with solid proof, if that helps at all; I’ll even throw in a fruit basket, and give you a nice variety of them!

Okay, I’m curious; I don’t think you’ve mentioned any of this on this blog, but I felt like a question like this would be better suited here…
Batolor’s backstory! He has a brother, Gam, and he left him at some point; what happened to make that happen? How’s his relationship with his family anyway, does he only have a brother? He has smaller wings… would his family have regular sized ones? Would he feel lesser because of that??? Jealous, even? Is that what wedged them apart? What drove Magolor to do what he did? (Other than the crowns own thrall, of course.)
If he had won back then, and saw his brother again… what would have happened?
Hehe what a good ask! I ended up writing a long rambling response so the tldr is:
yes, Magolor is a flightless runt and was bullied for it as a child
his family was not abusive, but also did not really give him the support he needed and he ended up leaving home because of it
eventually he did reconnect with Gamiel, but I haven't decided what became of his parents, if anything
Magolor did not believe the crown was real before he encountered it and so he had no real plans for it going in, except maybe to prove to everyone that he was more than just the runt (i like to think the crown took advantage of this vagueness to plant its own ideas into his head, but that's not set in stone yet)
I don't know what would have happened if he had encountered Gamiel again while crowned, but... I don't think it would have been good,

anyway here's the long winded uncut version that I mostly wrote in one sitting stream of consciousness style:
I feel like Magolor's species tend to have litters of two to three pups, with Magolor and Gamiel being a litter of two. Magolor was a runt, smaller than he's meant to be and with stunted, flightless wings. He was bullied for this by other pups and his family probably did not handle it as gracefully as they could have either, so it did indeed drive a wedge between him and the others from an early age
He learned to make himself bigger, literally and figuratively; he was loud, he was rambunctious, he trained himself to float higher to appear taller. There was no meaningful change in how he was treated when he tried to be good, so he decided to stop trying and fully embrace his label as "the problem child". He schemed to get what he wanted, he learned magic to feel powerful, he wreaked havoc on the people who dared continue to torment him. Giving gets you nothing, you've got to take, take, take.
And eventually he left altogether. It may have been after a fight, or he may have simply vanished one night, never to return to that place again. He carried his childhood lessons with him, though. He continued to lie, scheme, and steal his way through life, all the while bolstering his magical abilities so he could get out of the many situations he landed himself in. He would read too, when he had the time, about magic and artifacts and legends. Most of it was nonsense. Imagine, a crown that gives you limitless power! What bullshit. The things he could do with something like that, though… No one would ever call him a runt again, that's for sure!
After some years, a particularly bad string of luck landed him on the miserable planet of Halcandra. He had crashed, or perhaps been marooned; either way, he was stranded. He scoured the small planet for something, anything that might let him escape, eventually finding, of all things, a Starcutter!! It was broken down and hadn't seen maintenance in years, but there was a scrapyard nearby. Surely he could fix her up. He'd dabbled in engineering as a hobby, and he'd read about these things before. No reason not to try.
And as he was scavenging for parts one night, he caught sight of a dragon flying through the sky, wearing a… well, the rest is a bit of a blur for him.
As for what would happen had he encountered Gamiel again while bolstered by the crown, well… he perhaps would not have handled it as gracefully as he could have.

ive been struggling to draw lately so im sorry i dont have an ic answer for this, but thank you so much!! i remember the days of finding a new askblog and going through the whole thing in one day, it makes me really happy to know others are doing similar with mine.

i dont have a good ic response to this (he prefers not to think about this when at all possible) but i have actually been toying with an au where magolor succeeded in stranding kirby and co on halcandra, and so was basically unimpeded in his takeover of popstar and the surrounding planets. and because the fight with kirby never happened, the crown never needed to take full control, leaving magolor trapped under its thrall fully in charge. he could destroy everything he once loved live out his wildest dreams of conquest and power, and this is not what he wanted crush anyone who stands in his way this is not what he wanted become absolute ruler of the universe this is not what he wanted maybe even quash that silly voice in his head that keeps repeating this is not what he wanted
