up all night to the sun || steven + cynthia
Steven decided to save the waitress the trouble and instead told her to leave the bottle on the table. There was no point in beckoning her to and fro if Cynthia was just going to drink like a dehydrated bellsprout. He watched her grip her glass tightly, and bit back laughter. She could be amusing at times.
Half-expecting her to grab the bottle, Steven realized that she had instead set down her glass and started to complain about … something. About something being the same. It was probably directed at his comment about the party — well, she was right. It was boring, therefore he had only attended about five times out of the past nine years. There was only so many times one can talk about the same topics.
"I don’t like things being different," he pointed out after pouring himself a small cup of sake and replacing the bottle in its warm bath. “It’s tiring when things keep changing and you have to keep up.”
Steven enjoyed remaining in his comfort zone. As long as his fame and reputation preceded him, he could continue the way he did. Doors opened even to someone holding the title of ex-champion, without the hassle of having to rush back to the league every time a challenger managed to make it past the fourth Elite.
He lifted the bottle of ‘82 Chateau Margaux and filled her glass. (He noted that the inn used a poor quality of wineglasses; the set he had was made out of crystal.) It was a waste of good wine to be drank this quickly and rampantly, but he made no comment.
Being a champion had its perks sometimes, including the attractive salary from the pokemon league. It fueled Cynthia's addictions, including that of buying things on impulse. Her various homes were filled with random wingdings and knickknacks. Along with material objects came edible things. She nodded to Steven, chugging half of the glass again.
Usually when she drank with such vigor she was dressed to the nines at some sort of event filled with dull, business acquaintances. Now, however, she wore just a robe and was in a tiny inn dining hall with a man from the dead.
"Don't you ever get bored?" She inquired, raising an eyebrow. There was a bit of a pink tinge to her cheeks as the alcohol took effect. "The same thing over and over again... Both in moderation, change and routine can be good." Though a full week without fanboys would be lovely.
