A Mess Of Minds [INACTIVE]

I should probably just post something a little more ‘official’ here since I most likely won’t be coming back to this blog, so here are the links to my sideblogs if you want to come find me.

I’ll be editing this post to update on the level of activity for each blog.

@antagonistic-arsonist​ - Dragonborn Sorcerer; Medieval Fantasy/D&D-ish setting. Medium-High activity.

@occultcuriosity​ - Ghost-Demon Hybrid Scientist; Modern setting. Low activity.

@goldheartedrobotics​ - Robotic Dog Entertainer; Modern setting but less serious, can be worked into any other setting. No activity - probably won’t be on here for some time either.

Balder would tilt his head to the voice, listening and actually beginning to smirk a little bit before he would pocket his phone and hold up the necklace as he started to walk down the street, his doe following. 

“Good to know. Been doing alright?” he asked rather casually, the doe by him giving out a rather impatient howl. Though, Balder would end up waving a hand at its boney nose.

“As good I can really do. After a while you stop having ‘good and bad days’ - it all just melds together.”

The fact Balder seemed to be waving his hands to...nothing in particular didn’t go unnoticed. He could assume there was some explanation he had no idea about, but with for all he knew, it could just be the sleep depravation that seemed to be such a personality trait of Balder’s by this point.

‘Not causing trouble’. He founds some sort of gallows humour in what he knew that she didn’t. If he was truly ‘causing trouble’, she’d know about it.

“Don’t much need to ‘get’ energy.” A white, simple face appeared further into the alley. Beyond where darkness fully enveloped, but not at the very back where the amulet’s glow lingered.

Mai stayed still, her heart stuck at her throat, choking any words or scream from escaping her. She stayed completely still.

It felt like a day.

So many days. Or maybe it felt like all time had stayed still and all Mai could do was stare back. Her body leaned back against a tree, she couldn’t whimper. But, in a futile motion, with her hands still so close to her lips, she blew a very weak breath of that white mist to the figure before her. As the feline she is, she is curious but also so terrified to run.

The figure seemed...unresponsive. Its detailless face gazing motionless into hers. For a moment, it seemed as if it was never going to move - to keep her trapped, pinned here until she did little more than breathe.

It was enough to strike ice down the girl’s back as she stood there in the red, the black of the woods feeling like it surrounded her while the red light against the bark was almost like a foreboding warning of what will come if she doesn’t keep whatever-it-is inside.

But it stared.

Mai would move slowly, so very slowly to the direction away from home and further in the dark. It had her tremble as she felt the bolt strike her with every step and go through every strand of fur she has on her small body. Mai covers the gem, looking down at it as if to not look at the eyes.

Keep it docile.

Soon Mai did the best she could think of, holding the gem and soon bringing it close to her lips. She would give it a warm breath and soon from her palms came a soft swirl of a misty light into it. It was her magic. A magic that, compared to the gem, was probably so small and minuscule, but the intention was there. To heal it from whatever cold the gem felt. Calm it, hopefully.

The air began to pick up in subtle shifts and bursts. Bundles of leaves would suddenly shift, branches would suddenly sway violently, only to stop. The forest itself seemed to reflect whatever unstable energies emanated from the creature.

But as her magic connected with the gem, there was an abrupt silence. All the motions stopped. The magic itself seemed to more flow around the gem than enter it directly, as if the crystal prevented whatever healing might have otherwise affected it. The gem remained its unnatural cold. But now...

There was something far colder standing right infront of her,

All that was left was a breath.

Not even a song from a cricket.

Just her and the jewel in her hand that glowed an ominous red as the words ran through Mai’s mind over and over again. She can’t take this inside… she can’t take this inside! Mai looked behind her, holding the gem in her hand as she scrambled to grab a key in her pocket, missing the keyhole three times before she finally locked the Wayhouse and went to the edge of the woods.

The edge of the woods, right, wonderful idea this wasn’t a wonderful idea! What is she holding?! What just spoke to her? The gem?

Don’t let it leave, how? How can she not let it leave? She leaned against a tree in the dark, panting and then looking down at the jewel in her hand. She rubbed it a little then held it up to see. The red was harsher than her own eyes.

“Wh-What am I supposed to do..?!”

The light that emitted from the gem was more than enough to illuminate the entire forest around her, yet looking into it wasn’t at all uncomfortable. In fact, just staring into the crystal was a strangely comforting feeling. Deep beyond the transparent rock, seemingly far within the gem itself, small shapes floated and danced around - incalculable in number, yet every single one could be watched and followed. Yet every single one of them almost seemed to be...looking back.

It was no wonder there was a lingering feeling of being watched.

The air grew cold. A blood thinning, abnormal cold. An unnatural silence descended over everything. There wasn’t even the wind in the trees or the slightest crinkling of leaves. There was nothing.

A terrible power? No harm will come to you? Until they return–?!

Mai could only stare at the necklace and to the figure that started to fade and flicker, unsure how she can be able to calm the heartbeat that felt as if it was stuck in her throat. Though, with a family in mind and the tenants of the Wayhouse, two small hands would gently take the jewel and hold onto it.

The cold she felt from it was as if she held ice. Her hands trembled even more.

Mai actually held it closer, as if trying to warm the small gem and it would more likely, easily, feel how shallow her breaths are.

“Do you..D-Do you have a name?” She would ask. It was a question that, to the feline, seems to be the only thing that she needs.

“David.” It faultered again. From the single voice, a short chorus of uncountable others spoke within it.

“But what you may see...that isn’t...me. It is us, but not the mind you’re speaking to. Please. Keep it safe. Keep us safe. Wear it if you need, you will find it helpful. But́ ̸̶͢íf̕͝...”

The form suddenly recoiled in a moment of apparent strain. As it looked back up at her, thin white streaks seemed to emanate from its eyes - its expression now of panicked exhaustion.

“Please. I’m out of time. Don’t let it leave, keep it docile. But st͘a̢y s҉afe͞...”

The gem suddenly flickered in colour, darting between its original blue, and a deep, crimson red. It flashed purple on occasion, as if both sides has entered the peak of some struggle.

The poor beast girl had felt her fur stand on end all the more with a shiver going up and down her spine. She held her hands against her chest as if to tru and calm the little heart in her ribs, staring in awe of what she is seeing. Then the jewel…

“I–” her voice got caught, then she sputtered. “I-I-I don’t know how I cant.. help, I– how could I help you.. um”

Her tail remained stiff and still and she made a quick round gesture.

“All of you, I suppose.”

"What we...I...need of you is simple. The details are far too long for the time there is to explain them, but there is a terrible power among us. One I...no longer have the strength to contain. I ask that you keep us safe. Keep whatever comes forth here, and away from others. Until I have the energy to return.”

The necklace moved slightly closer to her - a gesture to take it, but not strongly enough to force it on her. The light dimmed somewhat - no longer the primary source of light in the room, but enough that the figure was till visible

“I would not ask this if I weren’t under great duress. I promise you will come to no harm, should all be done proper. There will be time to explain once it is done, but for now, I can only ask you to trust me.”

The girl's fur stood on end when she saw the blue light behind her, looking to the source and seeing the gem. A beautiful, haunting light that reflected off of her eyes in a temptation to take it. Though, the entire time she had her ears flicking to and fro to find and listen to the voice.

"I-I do what I can.. yes..." she answered meekly, her hands clasped against her chest as she looked around. "Who are you?"

The light of the gem flickered briefly, before slowly flaring up as it illuminated every dark spot in the room. It was only then that Mai could see the figure standing before her - how the gem was visibly through its transluscent silhouette form. White eyes emerged, looking into her with a gaze that, though simple in detail, conveyed a sort of exhaustion and humbleness.
