087. Generation 1, Episode 87
"Give it back, Silvia. That's my doll!"
"Ow-ow-owww! Why'd you kick me?!"
I was heading upstairs to check on Silvie when I hear a commotion coming from the play room. I walk in to see Fernie holding on to her leg in pain.
"What the hell's going on in here?" I didn't mean to let the cussing slip, but... at least it sends the right message.
"Sissy meanie!" Silvie yells.
"I wasn't mean to her!" Fernie says, "She took my doll and wouldn't give it back!"
"Okay, okay," I sigh, "Time-out. Both of you. We don't yell and hurt each other!"
I take Silvie to her room and sit her down on her rocking chair. I want to talk to the girls separately so they can can cool off and get talked to without it seeming like I'm putting them in a bad light in front of the other. I decide to talk to Silvie first.
"Silvia, we don't kick other people. That's mean and it hurts!"
"I want dollie!" Silvie whines.
"I understand you wanted to play with Fernanda's doll, but it's not okay to take her things without her permission, and it's absolutely not okay to kick people!"
"Next time, ask Fernanda, 'Can I play with your doll?'. If she says yes, then you can play with it, but if she says no, it's not okay to take it. I know it feels bad when someone says no. Feeling mad is okay, but being mean about it isn't okay."
"Are you gonna be nice to Fernanda and ask her to play with her doll from now on?"
"Good. Thank you, Silvia. I'm gonna go talk to Fernanda now, and then we'll go say sorry to her. Okay?"
Silvie nods her head again.
I walk over to Fernie's room, "So, Silvia took your doll and wouldn't give it back?"
"Yeah, and then she kicked me and called me a meanie."
"Well, that wasn't okay for her to do that. I already talked to her and told her to ask for your permission from now on, but that doll shouldn't have been left in the play room in the first place. The toys in there are for both you and her. Toys that are just yours should stay in your room. Same goes for Silvia; her toys stay in her room."
"Also, we don't yell at each other. That's not okay either, and it hurt Silvia's feelings. You have to be nice, or she won't wanna listen to you."
"Well... What if she just keeps saying no?" Fernie asks.
"Then you come and get either one of us, but I already told Silvia that whether she can play with your toys is up to you, and if you say no, then her not giving back your toys isn't okay. Permission is something Silvia is still learning, and she'll get better at it. Plus, being nice to her will make it more likely for her to listen to you. People don't like listening to others who yell at them."
Fernie sighs. I can tell she doesn't like what I'm saying, but she doesn't argue back. "Okaaay..." she groans.
"Good. Now, we're gonna go out to the hallway and apologize to each other."
"Okay, Silvie, what do you say to Fernanda?" I ask.
Silvie blows a kiss at Fernie, "Mwah! Wuv you!"
"Alright, Fernie, your turn," I say, "What do you say to Silvia?"
"I'm sorry for yelling at you."
"Good job, you two. I know that wasn't easy, but doesn't it feel better to make up and not be mad at each other? Let's go downstairs and see what Mom's making for dinner."
