games are intended for entertainment, often an escape mechanism for many young teens both male and female. i grew up with an older sister who's favorite video game was mortal kombat while mine was starcraft. she's an intelligent LMFT (licensed clinical therapist) who considers violent games a healthy outlet for real life frustrations. games allow us to act things we wouldn't in real life. there is often offensive and grotesque storytelling in modern games to intensify the experience. gamers and critics claim the emotional connections help the game feel more realistic. however, the creators of these games are following a common formula just like every other industry.

with dance music, tons of producers jump on a bandwagon whenever a new sound or style emerges. are you required to like it? no. the same goes for games, tv shows, movies, etc. video game companies have the right to create whatever they want. if you're not a fan, don't support it and look for an alternative. while it's possible that there may not be a market for what you're seeking, there's always an opportunity to create your own game, your own music, your own screenplay, etc. with massive networks like youtube and kickstarter, anything is possible in this day and age.

the krewella sisters have experienced a similar attack to anita sarkeesian (feminist gamer & cybermob victim). anita criticized mainstream games like super mario & the legened of zelda because she believes their lead males objectify women as objects that need to be rescued. i mean, if innocent nintendo games on that scale are already a problem, there's really no wiggle room for modern games like GTA, far cry, etc. are legal guidelines necessary? perhaps. otherwise, one could argue that other issues such as pedophilia may find it's way into the fantasy realm of video games with this point of view.

the online community unites for these kind of attacks on message boards that allow anonymity (4chan/reddit). during the 2013 mtv ema's, eminem was asked about what he thought about afrojack who was shit talking about him. he replied with "who?", and for months, afrojack's facebook and twitter was flooded with the comment "WHO?", stemming from an organized 4chan community. how about DDOS attacks on the playstation, xbox, and battle.net servers? these sorts of actions are just pointless protests exploiting the victim's weaknesses and or vulnerabilities.

krewella's jahan hasn't spoken out on social media for months but has now spoken out against the harassment being sent her way. perhaps the real cause is an upset community over two sisters and their manager kicking out the producer of the group and then dealing with a public lawsuit splattered all over the internet. are the derogatory insults necessary? obviously not. the attacks are pointless and are more than likely sexist due to the fact that it's a sensitive issue following the #gamergate events. krewella did go on twich.tv to stream a preview of their new track a few weeks ago. even the terms of service state that the site should only be used to stream gaming. seriously, what kind of response did they expect? did they get the reaction they were seeking? it's likely as jahan broke her silence with an article on billboard addressing the harassment. while creating awareness is definitely the solution, perhaps it's not the best one for the krewella sisters.
