SAM REID & JACOB ANDERSON | GQ's Friendship Quiz
they should invent a bookshelf that doesn't get dusty
All I wanted was a love that's finally designed to last
can i just talk about the witches' place for a minute? (the tvl soundtrack song) - this is a bit of a tangent lol
the lead violin's flowing and beautiful melody is consistent throughout the entire piece - to me it is so representative of lestat's enduring soul. you can still hear it almost fighting for dominance amidst the increasing volume of the rest of the orchestra!! they are in a back and forth dialogue (or even argument) with each other. however, no matter the short, sharp and almost jarring synchronic phrases of the other instruments, the lead violin is powerful and assured; it is not even a competition of who will outlast the other. where the orchestra interrupts, the lead violin has a long, slow melody that always reclaims focus. although, it is also worth noting that not only does the violin outlast, it, and the ensemble, play together in harmony. this feels like a representation of lestat finally facing his failures head on.
at the end, the lead violin remains the driving force of the piece, the orchestra fading in the background, representing lestat overcoming his failure/trauma once more (surviving imminent death due to his beheading in this instance in ep 7, and the acknowledgement that despite the consistent abuse he has faced by his mother his whole life, lestat has an unstoppable ability to find the drive to keep going no matter what)! the witches' place flashback is soooo enhanced with this beautiful song in the background i love it so much.
listening to the violin solo at the end makes me very emotional. the beautiful legato melody emphasises a sense of calm, which feels really earned after the emotional climax, where the orchestra is at its most menacing. the melody is so bright and contrasts the previous loud and intense section in such an extreme way. (i have a theory that louis' presence helps to aid this sense of calm as well - the fog of love, removing all external factors of discomfort or danger - which we see at the end of the episode in the tour bus during loustat's reunion.)
for me, this really affirms lestat's capacity for enduring, though i would argue it's more than just survival - he has a lust for life and a hope for something better (a love that's finally designed to last, for example...) that cannot be crushed!

Welcome to Loustat Bingo 2026!
This idea formed when a few Loustat fans were talking and realized there was a severe deficit of positivity and creativity in the fandom directly after TVL. So, @loustatified and @lovstat set off to try and fix that. Shortly after, the Loustat Bingo event was born! Special thanks to @ainosgarden @educatedinyellow @greyyourwarden and @houseofvamps we borrowed prompt ideas from them to fill the board out fully!
Here are the rules and guidelines:
We love the community of friends and connections that’s formed around talking about Loustat on here and we wanted to something to celebrate that! So this is predominantly a Loustat event. Works that follow Louis or Lestat are fine, but please remember to focus on their relationship with one another if you would like to be featured in this event.
Works we would love to see in the #loustatbingo tag:
Fanfiction: could be any length and any rating. Just make sure that it is tagged appropriately and content warning mentioned if any.
Art: could be your finished pieces, sketches, comics, or doodles. NSFW welcome.
Gifsets & gifs
Moodboards
Fan edits / videos Be creative, and spread joy and love for our favs!
A few gentle rules
Tag warnings and ratings appropriately, especially for anything explicit or heavy.
Be kind in the tag. Comment, reblog, hype each other up. Please remember this is a fandom positivity event, not a contest.
Timeline
Event runs: Sep 20 - Sep 26
Please remember to tag your work #loustatbingo so we can find it and share it!
Remember to check off your board square when you finish a prompt! We're so excited to play along with you :)
honestly, i think what trips people up about iwtv/tvl is that the show just isn't interested in the logic of punishment. all these characters have suffered, have caused suffering, are suffering. none of it is fair. to try and point out who is good or bad, or to cast all of them as evil, is frankly, missing the whole point.
if anything, the arguments presented by iwtv and tvl are that nobody comes to violence on their own. hurt people, the show argues, hurt people. and perhaps most difficult to accept in a society like ours: harming other people can be, itself, traumatic.
this is a story about cycles of trauma and abuse, and it posits that breaking out of it is a choice a person has to make, for one. and two, that someone's ability to make that choice depends on the tools they have at their disposal (for example: louis and lestat finally realizing they gotta work on themselves AND understanding that they lacked a lot of the tools to arrive at that conclusion because of the time they were born in). yes, there's systemic shit, but individuals also have power within themselves to Choose to Stop, to be and do better.
worth noting, though, that the show isn't arguing for a can't we all just get along vision of breaking the cycle. sometimes you have to carry the fact you caused harm that won't be neatly resolved (like, say, daniel and his daughters). some bridges are burned (perhaps) forever, but that also doesn't mean the people that were hurt are caught up in their own pain. you don't need to forgive to move on, nor do you need to be forgiven to move on.
yet, i don't think the show is arguing against the possibility of reconciliation, either. the argument seems to be that there can be no reconciliation without acknowledgement that people have a right to self-determination. and perhaps the way to get there is through compassion.
ultimately, compassion seems to be precisely what the show asks of the viewer and the characters both. it does so by eliciting sympathy through interiority. that is, by exposing the private selves of these characters. through that exposition, the show invites the viewer to reflect on what suffering does to people as well as what it leads people to do.
iwtv is a thought experiment, in a way, and the narrative really opens up once you allow yourself to engage in it.
